MWEB Business cuts server hosting fees

The specs on that server for R683 p/m seem entry level. They'd recover the hardware costs within 10 months. I would think that for that price, they'd at least allow a higher monthly traffic usage.
 
Definitely locally hosted. That is the only advantage local ISPs have over international ISPs, and for many businesses, especially bigger businesses (the MEs in SME) it doesn't make sense to host internationally. There are issues of latency, international submarine cable downtime, routing, confidentiality, legal issues, etc.

When things go wrong, and they DO go wrong from time to time, you want to be able to sort it out quickly, locally, and without needing to make costly international phone calls, or use crappy VOIP services. Sometimes you might even want to walk up to your server and access it directly. On the legal side, it is also very difficult, if not impossible to hold a US company accountable.

Local hosting just makes sense. But it's very expensive compared to international hosting.

Those prices are actually bloody amazing for locally hosted servers if you ask me....
 
Sometimes you need to have your machine close to you, in a location you can actually get to. Get off-site backups and similar. Hosting locally makes perfect sense then. The pricing is very similar to Hetzner (which I use), but with WAY larger data caps. If you have a server with a large over-usage bill then this will definitely be cheaper for you, by far. Now if we can only find out how reliable their network is.
 
This day just keeps getting better :) Afrihost practically giving away capped accounts and now MWeb showing the rest of the local market how its done once again :)

My Hetzner bill for last month, managed plus server (i7-860, 8GB RAM, 160GB HDD) with 50GB bandwidth was R2500 and then Hetzner charges R25 per GB over usage.
