MWEB closes Wi-Fi service

Lamberti highlighted that the MWEB Wi-Fi infrastructure was sold to WirelessCo, a new wholesale Wi-Fi company set up as part of a separate transaction concluded last year.

WirelessCo is owned by Dimension Data (51%) and MultiChoice (49%)

But isn't IS part of DD ?

Closed their Usenet services, now their WiFi.

Looks like they closing up shop bit by bit...

Sensationalist title. And just look at the hooks, lines and sinkers it creates.

Hi Schumi

The MWEB Wifi trial will be ending at the MWEB Wifi hot spots.
Should you wish to connect at any of the MWEB hot spots you would still be able to do so with your email address and password by searching for Always On, then selecting MWEB as your provider.

There still will be ALwaysOn for all Mweb subscribers

Hi [XC] Oj101

The Uncapped WiFi Hotspots at malls was launched as a trial and stated for 6 months only but we ran it for way longer than that.

Therefore it was not a paying product but a free trial.

Afternoon schumi and Oj101, the sms is meant for all non MWEB clients.

MWEB FON Clients will now obtain uncapped wifi at all AlwaysOn networks and other MWEB wifi locations. ;)

Got an sms the on the 24th from mweb stating "@MWEB WiFi will be discontinued on 23-Mar. In future connect to AlwaysOn & register to redeem daily 30min free WiFi.."
So they did notify people who've registered and used the service.

I see mweb guy replied to a mybb forum thread that "MWEB FON Clients will now obtain uncapped wifi at all AlwaysOn networks and other MWEB wifi locations."

If it was free and there is an alternative then all good

People complaining about a service that was for free... just putting that out there.

Busy planning on moving back from Afrihost (again) and this was quite a big carrot as I'm travelling quite a lot and it's a plus not having to use mobile data so I'm glad it isn't affected the way the OP implies.

I have never even used mweb wifi at hotspots. Always On was always better for me at the airport or Mugg & Bean and such.

"Free" on condition of using the isp. Bet it brought in business for them.
