MWEB closes Wi-Fi service

In agree with your last part.

But the first part regarding :

"They do, they just don't talk about it publicly.

The best things in life are often kept secret."

Look I was a Mweb user from the early days up until August 2013 I think my first contract with them was in 1999 and I can tell you with honesty after 2001 transparency was never a word I would used and if you want to take recent years 2011-2013.... Please don't.

Understood. I have uncapped, all figures and limits are public info, so there is full transparency.

I think it's best to rather not get in bed with ISPs or even cell network providers, expecting transparency.

A quality product is a quality product, transparency does not phase me, personally.

We must also not forget that the general public has a fraction of the knowledge (and usage) that MyBb forumites tend to have.

I believe this is overlaps with the home/business Wi-Fi service that MWeb is retaining

MWEB Fon customers will now receive Uncapped WiFi access through the national Always On network, whereas they previously received 5GB of data. Non MWEB Fon customers will continue to enjoy 300MB of free WiFi. This is a result of the recent joint venture between Naspers and Dimension Data’s Internet Solutions (IS).

Great development. As I said, that's certainly not the impression the headline of this article gives

So free wifi in many shopping malls and other public spaces was replaced by money making wifi venture....
Typical South African internet greed at play again.

When I was in the USA (Washinton DC and Atlanta) three years ago it was free wifi almost everyhere you go. No catch. No limited MB or email address or telephone number required crap (which in SA will get you a lifetime subscription to sms spam and telemarketing!!)

South Africa will never catch up to the rest of the world when it comes to broadband and internet access....Way too much greed at play.

Jesus... Can we hand this lady above a free AF subscription please.

Hi Venomous, nothing changed with regards to FON. Fon customers now get uncapped wifi at always on spots where they previously got 5GB.

Must admit this tempts me , could save money on my ever increasing mobile data bill and many times Always on exceeds mobile data speed in the areas I frequent

Uncapped WiFi, definitely a money saver ;)

Is it still R700

We have different products, if you are interested in uncapped Wifi you need to be part of the FON network. I can arrange for someone to contact and provide more info. Please PM me your contact details.
