mweb down international

As per the quote above from MWeb, we are being routed via SAIX until SEACOM has been repaired.

So what's that got to do with me restarting my router. The routers def gateway is Mweb, so if they change their routing tables it should be seamless and not require a router restart?

....Unless they have only changed the routing only for a specific net block?

No idea. Maybe we needed to get a different (new) IP address to be able to route via SAIX.

You authenticate against MWEB's RADIUS server (Telkom will query it via the IPC link). The ESR then terminates your PPPoE stream, assigns you an IP in the MWEB range and forwards the whole stream to MWEB via IPC. In order to use SAIX, you will need to get a new IP in the SAIX range, so the ESR's can route the traffic to SAIX first. So you need to reconnect so the old PPPoE stream can be discontinued, and the new stream forwarded to SAIX, and so you end up in the right address block.

It's probably too complicated for MWeb to change their routing, or too expensive to buy IPC from Telkom at short notice, so using SAIX gateway is a 'quick-and-dirty' solution. MWeb have never been able to do seamless re-routing AFAIK (the last SEACOM outage was a 'pre-planned' one).

Presumably all the existing ADSL interfaces are still there, though I'm wondering if MWeb can still bill for this usage (might not count for capped users??) Edit: Usage does still show...

Users will have to reboot once SEACOM comes back (could be a few days?)

Edit: Better explanation than mine, posted simultaneously.

Still doesn't explain why MWeb can't re-route...

@Killerb Ask your mommy for another bottle, you can then go back to sleep. The ONLY thing up to ***** is your stupid attitude.

Yip, I am with you. A little bit of reading on this forum would have lead the OP to see that they have moved onto their backup. Yes, your downloads may be a little affected but not bad considering.

And what's the bet it is just another pathetic rant (without thought) and the OP will stay with MWeb regardless. Really pathetic!

You can go suck your dadys @#$#% i hade an business account and after 4 houers it was still dead, rebooted the modem 20 times, i think i have more knowledge with this kind of stuff than u ppl only use it for downloading torrent and play games online the whole time, online internet are money in my pocket offline are loss of money...

The grammar Nazi inside of me is having uncontrollable spasms...

And yet he's so modest too...

Kill-a-Bee, I suppose it's completely Mweb's fault that a link near repeater #9 in INDIA has crapped out. If you're really losing out on income, why not just use a WebAfrica account in the interim?

Lucky for you you only had to try it out and you not stuck with it for life.

Thanks for sharing, now enjoy that vodacom bandwidth.

Gone are the days of good grammer and spelling
How very right you are.. (oh such delicious irony)

Meanwhile, back on-topic: we've got business mweb at the office - on the end of a VERY long and craptastic line and for the most part, during office hours when it, you know, counts for the worker bees, it's workable: which IS the fundamental point. Sure, the after-hours traffic could be better but that's not something about which I see a need to complain and anyway, this will clear up in a few days. And I can go back to fretting about my blasted line.

Yes it is , look in the official MWEB thread
