So i got a fixed LTE package from MWEB running on the MTN network but it turns out that MTN only supports a small number of routers. I currently have the huawei b593. It does connect but i am unable to browse. So i went back to the Mweb product page to see where i missed where they are stating that i need a specific router. And now the site says i am not in the coverage area. I really don't want to spend R2500 on a new router for it to potentially not to work. Is there a way i can force my current router to connect or even force a phone to connect? I probably am going to have to pay for at least 1 month if i cancel the package and i really don't want to waste 200 gig's of data. It is only R700 but that is is a lot on my minimum wage salary. Any ideas?

Unfortunately not. MTN packages are limited to certain routers it's a MTN restriction. If you want to use any router I can suggest Telkom LTE deals also from MWeb.

Thank you for your quick response. Unfortunately the site says I am also not covered by the Telkom network. So I guess i am stuck with Telkom fixed LTE on prepaid lol. It's fun throwing R700 down the drain. Thank you very much.

If you can use Telkom Fixed LTE on prepaid and see Telkom network the Telkom simcards from Mweb and other ISPs like Axxess and Afrihost will also work.

Hi sorry for the late response. The problem is nobody wants to sell me a package because according to them i am not in the coverage area for both MTN and Telkom according to Telkom's coverage map i only have 2G coverage but as I said I am using Telkom LTE just fine. So when I saw Mweb's website said I am in the coverage area for MTN i jumped on it because they offered a 100gig + 100gig NTD for R529 where on Telkom I am buying 80gig + 80gig NTD for R549. Its just weird that Mwebs site no longer says i am in the coverage area. Atleast i have that in my favour as i would not have been able to complete the purchase if the site detected that i am not in the coverage area. Will give them a call on Monday and see what i can do.

According to some list, you need a class 6 or better router on MTN Fixed LTE. I have a Huawei B535 which is a class 7 router, and my sim still got blocked. I signed up with Axxess and checked with their technical people is this router will work beforehand and they told me it will. The router worked excellently, I was getting 80Mbps+ and I am sitting in the Karoo! The joy lasted about 90 minutes, then the connection stopped. I got notified by Axxess that they detected the sim was in an unauthorised device and got blocked. The support from Axxess was simply awful, I was advised to cancel my subscription with a month's paid notice and no refunds. I need to work remotely and was relying on this as a solution. The second time I got burned by both Axxess and MTN, I guess a leopard never changes its spots... Right? @The Axxess Lady

Ya just got off the phone with mweb they also had to cancel it with no refund. I actually also managed to get a phone to connect for like 10 min then was blocked. The sad part is i was able to get this because mweb's site said i was in the coverage area but if i check now i am not. So ya they did manage to score R759 but both MTN and Mweb lost a customer for life.

Howzit need to know do you once you receive the MTN fixed LTE sim can you insert it into your compatible device router while you are waiting upon activation

@Boetartb: You need to put the SIM into your compatible router as soon as it arrives. The service will only activate once the SIM has registered on the FLTE network. You might run into problems if you don't activate it very soon after receiving it. In my case the service was working <30 minutes after I installed the new SIM card.

I have had problems with new prepaid SIM cards that have been RICA'd but not activated within a few days!

Had to contact mweb to assist with APN settings seems great so far what an improvement from RAIN ,,,,,,o_O
Well done MTN and MWEB !!!

Hello Friends

I changed from Rain to MTN fixed LTE, was a great improvement, but lately my router started to only receive 1 bar signal whereas it was always full, most of the time it works perfect, but mostly after load shedding i get 1 bar for an houor two, but im starting to get it randomly now without loadshedding, Anyone else got similar problems?

I fortunately don't have the load-shedding issue with MTN fixed LTE, but do have it on Telkom LTE.

After power comes back on, the router will move between 2 to 3 out of 5 bars for about 2 hours, and then only restore the full 5.

Very occasionally on MTN it'll drop to 3 or 4 bars, and then recover ; it's mostly a rock solid connection for me these days (through Afrihost's Air Mobile).

There's a 3 page online MTN fault form you can fill out, but whether they bother doing anything for you is debatable.

I'll try find the link & post it below ....

Network coverage query

"If you have a query about your MTN signal or about our network coverage, please fill in the form below and we will get back to you." - (famous last words !?)

Thanks, before going further, im really dumb with this, but i did monitor my router settings, it seems my cell ID changed a few times before it settled on a 5 bar tower. going back and forth the whole time. This is fixed LTE, why would it jump Towers, and strangly enough i dont find any of the towers on cellmapper. Ive logged faults with Mweb since this morning, but no response as yet. My connection is good again but work day is done and time for bed, so not really that chuffed.

I have been having a similar issue with MWEB. Also have the Huawei B535 Router and did the whole exercise of making sure that the router is supported and that we have network coverage which we do. We got the sim card sent to us and once we got the confirmation that the sim card has been activated we waited for it to do its thing but nothing happened. Got hold of MWEB and they gave us the APN that we are suppose to be using and it worked lovely for 30 minutes and then we had no internet. Needless to say we have been without internet now for over a week and the technical team don't all seem to be too bothered to actually get to the bottom of it all. They claim that all checks out on their side and that MTN has to see what is going on from their side. Surely there must be somebody who actually knows what is going on and how to fix this ongoing problem once and for all.

ive been on mtn fixed lte 6yrs now or 3 contracts i allways take an mtn router .never had a day down yet .i did try once in a tp link lte unit .it wouldnt work said router not compatible .ill see if i can find my apn for you.speed from 40 to 60 mbs

Thank you so much Soulie. Will have a look and see what happens.

Alright,so after all the backwards and forwards for the last two bloody weeks it turns out that our original router was perfectly fine and that MTN is the problem. My wife went to an actual MTN store to find out what the devil is going and it turns out that we are not the only ones with our particular problem. According to the store who did a proper check which MTN technical should have done from the very start our area does not have Fixed LTE but normal 4G. This is leaving both me and my wife in a very bad mood as we asked all these questions ahead of time. So now my question is this, what is MTN doing to sort out this problem which a store picked up and not their technical people? We have had basically no internet now for 2 weeks. Is there no way of reporting them?
