MWEB Gaming Feedback

before 100 people there wow is going mad, there is current wow problem, loads of eu guys lagging atm, i myself is 100 fine though.

Today playing KZ3 on PSN was the worst day ever. Lag was very bad, very very bad!

Let me just say I appreciate the WTFast account that you organised for me, Will.

It has made no difference and last night and tonight I was not able to do a WoW heroic guild run.

It's pretty sad actually. This is not what gaming is supposed to be about.

MWeb appears to be all about talk and LITTLE action - this has been going on since October 2010 and I must be just one idiot to have hung around this long. Very sad.

Hi WGS

I understand your frustration 100%, missing a guild run due to network problems is not nice, but I think you are being a little unfair in saying that this has been going on since October. The problems we had back then were sorted out and there has been a huge improvement in the quality of gaming across the board on our network.

This has not been a great week for our network, in terms of our IPC link failing earlier in the week, a DNS challenge that we needed to overcome, a Seacom maintenance slot and then a Seacom outage to top it off. Unfortunately gamers tend to be the most sensitive customer group in situations like this as increased latency and packet loss are likely symptoms of a network being under pressure.

I really need to stress that these are short term problems though and as I mentioned in my previous post our networks team are working on various initiatives at the moment which will give us even more QoS capabilities for sensitive traffic once they are completed.

Thanks for the response, Will. I agree that there has obviously been work on your part to improve performance and when the going has been good, it has been amazing (650ms down to 200ms is nothing to sneeze at). That said, I will take the old 650ms - 900ms any day of the week if we could just have the stability of old. I knew that I could do 10-man raids, as long as my wife wasn't playing at the same time, and would DC in 25-mans at boss fights. But I also knew that I could do 5-man instances with my wife in the same group and that playing the game meant consistent latency.

At the moment though I will have 200ms and the next moment, particularly should I wish to use the Auction House, the latency will balloon to 6000ms+. When this is happening - and it has happened fairly regularly recently - I cannot play the game. It is not even that the 6000ms is a true reading - I will try to cast a spell and nothing will happen at all for over a minute and then I dc. Very frustrating, as you said.

What I would LOVE is for MWeb to inform us immediately when there is an issue that is causing problems. I can then know that the matter is beyond your control and not rage blindly at MWeb. Unfortunately there seems to be insufficient communication in this regard.

I obviously misread the different packages on the MWeb site last time I checked and only realised today that I'd been clicking the cost for the 10Mbs line, so we will be contacting MWeb to upgrade to the 4Mbs line and hopefully that sorts out a bunch of the issues we are experiencing. I appreciate what you and MWeb are doing to accomodate gamers, so I want to give the upgraded line a chance before considering moving ISPs.

Hi there.

I'm having trouble with steam. The past week I haven't been able to login at all. Now I can login and when steam starts to update it goes the max line speed for a second then the speed quickly slows down to 3 to 6 kb/s and then eventually just comes to a stand still. Using my web africa account everything is 100%. I'm in Stellenbosch.

Dunno if this applies to your case but Steam HATES torrents, so turn off any torrent downloads completely before launching or updating. I was having this problem until my friend told me to close uTorrent before launching steam. Works every time now...

Hi WGS

I think the move to 4mb is a great idea if you have multiple WoW players on your home network, I think you will find it a much smoother experience. In terms of notifications of network problems we really do our best to get that information out to our customers. We have emergency messages on our call center recordings, a network status page on our portal and status updates on Twitter and Facebook. In cases of bigger problems they will almost always be announced on our feedback thread here as well.

I see there have been one our two complaints about steam performance recently, I'll make sure we do some testing from our side and see if we encounter any issues.

@Mweb Steam continues to be an issue for my friend, who is now on a 4mb line, yet never for me. Same exchange, 50m away from each other.

It may be though that I am always logged on while he goes onto offline mode, in hope that he can access his games. Then steam wants tp do an update before it starts and it usually runs at about 1KB/s during the day (who knows why)

he needs litterly close every app on his pc that uses internet and try even just having utorrent open and not dling will cause problems for some guys.

I used Alt.Binz on the Mweb news server. Problem is that it's downloading the NZb's but show no KB/s download and no files on PC? yet show 100% downloaded after a possible normal download time, Win7.

Any ideas? Anyone have NZB's list I can try?

This is the first time I tried to use a news server since the WebAfrica (I think) news server tests.

Any other news servers available for access on Mweb Uncapped and Afrihost 11GB services?

EVERY program... The strangest part is that I download using utorrent and connect fine! I will pass this along, but I can guess that this isn't going to be very helpful, can't control the other people on the network

I can only BG and raid at 1-2am on wow, during the day my latency spikes horribly. :( (I'm using wtfast on a 384k line :o )

any issues with the 4.1 update (other than most of your addons breaking)? So far everything looks ok to me from a latency point of view. Those of you on slower lines remember to try disabling the new 'Optimize network for speed' setting if you have DC problems in instanced areas. Also don't forget to make sure all of the P2P and download in game options in the launcher are unticked once you're done patching.

Who else is having issues with slow steam downloads? Usually I download off steam at full line speed, but now I'm getting 117Kb's.

Me sad panda.

so is mweb always this kak for WoW, with regards to lag spikes and dc's? Or did i just join up at the wrong time?
