MWEB Gaming Feedback

Will, how have WA managed to get it right? They have prioritised wow traffic on their shaped accounts. Ive got a 1gb prepaid, and 1 monthly shaped account with them and my latency never goes above 300.

Surely prioritising wow traffic wont have a negative effect on your network, as the actual b.w consumption by wow is minimal at most? I played wow 4 years ago on an average latency back then of about 700/800. This was manageable but not feasible for PVP. If you were playing with a bunch of saffers, itll suffice, but with internationals its just 2 slow. Now through WA im playing on a 270 average ping on a shaped account and I can say that theres a massive improvement in gameplay on a low latency connection compared to the opposite.

Gaming and latency issues are the main factors preventing me from moving to your uncapped solution.

Hi,

I have read through this threat more than twice just to make sure i didnt miss anything

I have a 10mbps line with a 4meg uncapped acount... with mweb, after getting my wow account activated again after 6 months not playing
on Mweb uncapped account im getting 2k+ latency. after hours of tweaking finally desided to go to Pick and Pay and get a 1GB axxess account before they close... weird that i can play with the axxess account, and get less than 300ms latency. compaired to 2k-5k+ latency on my mweb uncapped. all other online games are fine that I have

I know this has been posted before, just voicing my latency problem aswell.

latency was fine for me till about an hour ago, got disconnected and now my lat is 700+, did a speed test and on my 4mb account and 4mb line i get 1.77Mb/s.......

Same getting 500ms to local HoN servers and 700 to another local game

Hey guys been following the thread since it started, lots of useful info etc. Glad too see Mweb is so closely involved in customer concerns.

with that said, latency too WoW EU has been fine all weekend. But since today Wow, Mumble(Voip Client), etc. is @ 600-800ms.

if you're routing via our Cape town link please be aware that we are running at reduced capacity at the moment due to a partial link failure. This will account for general slowness and increased latency at the moment.

ahh ok, no wonder its so fookin bad, ok, well, would u know the eta when this will be sorted out Will?

@Will

Are you guys doing something at the moment?

My WoW latency was at 600ms ( playable ) tonight yet my torrents are horrible?

Reason I am asking is whatever is happening now seems to have fixed the WoW issue or made it a bit better

ZOMG! What changed!?!? for the first time in weeks, I can log into WoW with my MWeb account Oo.

Is it Christmas, is Boney M in the Air?

Just leave it as it is Will...dont change a thing....im gonna go raiding now!

Im beginning to think MWeb and WoW do not go together... Since WoW goes together with me... Maybe I need to stop going with MWeb! :P Am I correct in saying though that OpenWeb Uncapeed is the same?

Well afrihost were/are giving away those free 1GB accounts. Since I was a previous customer, I went and 'cashed' in on the freebie. Wow latency last night on my mweb account was 6k, I then used a VPN to the UK, and got 3k latency which eventually settled on 1.5k latency. Then Alt-F4'd. PPPOE'd to afrihost on my FREE 1GB account, and got.... wait... for.... it... 300ms. In raid last night, i was on 450/500. Go figure..

@Will@MWEB, you say Cape Town has some slowness? Are you sure it was recent? I can't say I noticed any difference between last night, last week or 5 weeks ago with regards to latency or slowness. Only thing I noticed is that on my 10mb line, my speedtest to JHB was 150ms @ 4mb speed. My speedtest to the UK was 444ms @ 2.2mb speed. I thought MWEB were upgrading accounts for those with 10mb lines?

Yes we had a partial loss of network capacity yesterday, the problem was resolved just before 20h00. 10mb line upgrades do not translate into upgrades of our uncapped products, they remain at the speed that you purchased. We do now have a 10mb uncapped offering, you can check out the pricing on our products and services page.

And like clockwork, 18h00 and my WoW latency jumps from 300ms to 2900ms and climbing.

How ****ing lovely is it to pay for a service which you only get half of

and here's the irony:
Business Hours - Torrents are bad but WoW is great
After hours ( as soon as the clock strikes 18h00 ) - Torrents are good and WoW is bad

Seriously, is this ****ing rocket science?

oh and btw:
Hi, I got the guys to have another look at this and give you a call tomorrow.

Still waiting for this call. 3 weeks now Mweb......

Yeah I tried out my FREE account as well last night on Yogg +0 (old achies we never went and finished). And it was perfect. Gee, it's quite nice to be able to play WoW on an account I don't even pay for! /sarcasm off

Thank for all your help Will - you are the only asset for your company.....but I have now officially, after many weeks, cancelled my 4meg uncapped service that MWeb Offers. Web Africa offers a much improved service and I rue the fact that I ever paid for such a bad service from Mweb.

Truth is this. I am a professional, and I am a gamer. I fall into that segment people who has money to burn. I am now spreading word of how aweful the Mweb service is for gaming in my industry. And hopefully, word of mouth will spread and you will loose the hardcore segment of your clientele. Go feed that to your marketing department.

Well, that is what I hope at least. And then MWeb will spend some real effort in fixing their service.

Again...you were the light in this Saga master Will, but the other ISPs outclass your company.
