MWEB Gaming Feedback

@Chris3 Can I ask you to make contact with the MWEB Operations user on here and let's get you through some general troubleshooting on your line etc. The WoW issue we're working on, the other stuff is not what you should be experiencing.

The problem existed before the peering issue. And beside the peering issue would not effect WoW traffic anyway as it is international.

Since when was this a WoW only thread? This is a gaming thread so it also involves local gaming which is complete screwed up atm...

EDIT: I'm also interested to hear that you guys watched the Blizzcon stream on an MWEB line. What was the experience like?

I had a few mates at my place. Used my 4mb uncapped/shaped account. Was able to stream Blizzcon at 720p (medium) quality. It would auto-adjust the stream, at times, to 1080, which then lagged out. But 720p (when I could get the video streamer to listen to my stream setting choices) would stream 100%.

I'm in CBD (Cape Town) as well btw.

This is not a WoW only thread, it is a gaming thread yes you are correct, but we know what the issue is with local gaming (mostly its the peering ties that Mweb cut) but the WoW issue we or Mweb do not know what it is nor how to fix atm. That is why it is seen as a "WoW Only" thread.

yep your gaming should be fine on webafrica servers if your in cpt, or igame servers, or just play black ops :P

just don't play on saix servers

Looks like my lag spikes have gone for now, im in cape town 2 btw, will have to see next week with 4.0.3a patch goes.

this advice is not just for you it is for a lot of mweb users, it hurts to say this but it is true....

KEEP a second capped account at arms length, Mweb IS going to mess up although some of us IS fine now, believe me it has happened before and will again until they fix the issue.

This is just a word of advice as I have been doing this whole time and yes it is tedious but that is about what you can do, or move to another ISP..... that is about the only 2 REAL options we have

I logged on last night firstly with mweb, 2500ms.. then down to 1500ms and settled around that number.. I'm in CT (CBD) as per my post a little higher up. And I can verify laggy as hell still.
Leatrix fix + WA = 230 - 280ms! That's what I was getting last night after my mweb test. Got the same latency in ICC as well as Dala on my WebAfrica..

I logged on wow today with Mweb 4mb uncapped/shaped account and started off with 720ms latency witch rapidly dropped to 360ms and remained so for 10 min then it slowly started to rise to 1000ms over a period of 30 min, this always happens to me then i get Dc and its starting to piss meh off, the realm i play is Darkspear i enjoy the realm as its always full of noobs and drama which makes the game interesting... but i got kicked from my guild as i Dc ever 10-15min when raiding as my line drops..
This problem has been going on for months now and i don't know what to do.. i contacted Mweb and was told its telkoms fault that my line is unstable so i called telkom they reduced my line to a 2mb which had no effect and then blamed the constant disconnections on Mweb. so what do i do now?

Flip it sounds as if you have an underlying problem which is not connected to the WoW issues we are currently trying to resolve. Please contact the MWEB Operations user on here and ask them to assist you with getting the line checked and to check for possible congestion issues.

Bfbc2 is completely unplayable today, extreme spikes and rubber banding. and its not only me, most of the mweb guys that were online were experiencing the exact same thing.

and will, im suspecting that its a technical problem on your side, and not something thats been setup the wrong way or something thats gotten corrupted. my setup and line was perfect before the peering cuts. ever since then my internet line has been either completely useless or barely usable.

only recently has it started to resemble its old self, and on some days it would perform better than it used to, and then the next moment its as bad as ever. This is not some press the button and heyto-potato its fixed problem. I don't know if its just over subscribed, or if some lan cable is plugged into the wrong port and sending the servers into a frantic loop, but seriously this is getting old, every time its the same:"were investigating" and after "soon" you tell us "it didn't work as well as we expected" and then when people start to inquire as to why it didn't work you tell us "its complicated" or that you contractually forced not to talk about it.

Just call webafrica or axxess or some one who's wow or <insert game> isn't screwed up, ask them how they fixed it, adapt the fix for you server setup instead of spending months trying to find out why its doing what its doing. problem solved.

Mweb are currently applying the same shaping as in the day to try and resolve our gaming issues, at least they are doing something now, my faith is somewhat restored in them... Lets hope it gets better tho as nothing pees me off more than waiting in a dungeon queue for 20 only to get dced! >.<

Chris I can honestly tell you that I have never had a problem with BC2 on our network. A friend mentioned to me earlier that igame was very laggy for him this evening and he is not an MWEB customer I have not looked at the BC2 experience myself this evening as I am busy with WoW tests for our vendors, however I did play last night and all was well. You do also realize that you will have high latency on any SGS servers due to the lack of peering between us and SAIX? The peering cuts would have had no effect on your individual service, these are routing changes between ourselves and other local networks. I would urge you again to make contact either with the normal technical channels, or to speak to MWEB Operations on here and ask them to assist you with full troubleshooting.

that migt be good enough

tracert to bbc.co.uk please so I can see which way you're routed?

Sorry we missed the boat, had to move ahead to the next stage of testing, but we got feedback from someone else in roodepoort. Did you play at all between 22h00 and now though?

No soz, it was 2000+ when I got home so I laughed it off for the night

No problem

We did some extensive testing this evening staggering the application of after hours shaping on North and South to try and see if we can isolate the hotspot on the network.
