MWEB Gaming Feedback

In general, I have to say I've had little to no lag. But yesterday, I logged in about 16:35, and all was fine. I did some quests with one of my alts on another realm (Darkspear) with no issues. logged out at about 17:50 to bath my daughter, and logged back into main realm (Daggerspine) at about 18:17. It was laggy, but tolerable for about 5 mins, then the lag became intolerable. I logged out again at about 18:30 to go out, and came back after 19:00... still the same issues until I logged off again at about 19:25. I then logged in again at 20:45 and was the same. I rebooted my machine, same. I turned off the router for a few mins, still the same. I then changed accounts to another ISP, and no issues. I will say that all the while during this time, my son was having a blast of CoD: BO.

Also, I have often been playing across the 18:00 Bermuda Triangle with no issues, but it seems something happened yesterday.

If your son was playing BO *WHILE* you tried to play WoW that would quite easily explain it. Even if it's minor data-usage 2 games running on one connection at the same time is going to cause latency spikes just like a download running would.

Am I right in saying that I'm still looking for a Gauteng based player who consistently experiences the 18h00 issue?

Spikes perhaps.. but that aside I have the following running in my house...
Aion (Eldest Daughter Boyfriend)
WoW (Me)
WoW (Wife)
WoW/CoD/BF/Flavour-of-the-month (son)
FaceBook (Eldest Daughter) - this causes lag normally

Normally there is no issue with latency or anything. The 3 wow players raid together in the same guild, so even 3 games clearly don't put that much load on the system....

I have a very similar setup and never experienced lag until November, Afrihost results in no lag but ofc using it is not ideal since its a capped account. I am on leave next month and an unusable gaming ISP is not going to go down well, will be cancelling on Monday unless a miracle happens

Hi Will

So checked with BT Games Tygervalley, if they gave me the wrong information, then my apologies.

I'm in Belville CT, been busy this weekend but right now (10:37 Sunday Morning) Wow is unplayable. Ping spikes galore. Can't even log in.
I'm on 384kb 5gb account.

Are you guys any closer to finding a solution?

Looks like this problem is only down in CT, I am in JHB and rarely get more than 500ms ping and with reducethelag or battleping I get under 300ms, I do have the odd lag spike but not often.
edit: I play on Darkspear EU

Hi Havox

No worries, just wanted to clear up the confusion before it started a five page thread :p

In answer to your question I have some theories currently that I want the networks team to explore, obviously a lot of their attention was focused on the work that had to take place last night so I will have to pick this up tomorrow. I am strongly starting so suspect that this is primarily a Cape Town issue. If I don't get a player who is not routing through Cape Town, who definitely has the 18h00 issues to assist me with testing by tomorow morning then I'm going to make arrangements to get a copy of WoW onto a testbench in JHB to verify this for myself.

Probably don't help, but i started playing league of legends which is hosted in Europe , playing with 280k ms, but is very smooth, smoother then local war 3 servers o.0

Thanks for +1ing my theory Flip :)

Hey Will, Im located in Boksburg, in Gauteng. And I frequently experience the 18h00 issues. Up to 13k latency as reported by WoW. Frequently enough to be consistent.

Hi ultraviolet. If you're up for it could you please do the following for me:

Send me your mweb login name so that we can get a look at the traffic manager logs for you.
Go to wireshark.org and download the traffic capture application that you find there.
Take a capture of your traffic before 18h00 and after 18h00, try to keep them roughly the same length (about 5 minutes is enough). Make sure that you are not running any ping reduction services, or MTU adjustments when you do this. Also try to close any background apps that might be causing network chatter, such as gtalk as this will give the engineers a cleaner view of what's going on.

You will have to do this on a normal weekday, so tomorrow evening, ideally. Please PM me if you're willing and once you have the captures and I'll let you know how to get them to me.

Thanks
Will

Hi Will,

I was wondering if you have any knowledge concerning latency in Port Elizabeth for playing WoW - I have an IS account and an Mweb account. The Mweb is an uncapped 4mb package on a 4mb line. Initially the Mweb account was splendid for playing, sticking from 300-500ms. this was when I purchased it, as it launched.

Unfortunately the last month or so I have had serious problems playing it on Mweb. It has been unplayable, 1000 ms minimum, at the best of times, and often spiking from 4000ms to 10000ms. The IS account is fine, 400-500ms generally.

I have been quite happy with the overall performance of the Mweb uncapped bundle, I am just wondering if there is a known problem in PE.

P.S. I also have issues with SC2 and HoN when I play, although I have not been gaming terribly much and cannot give a consistent report for those.

Thanks
Mac

Its getting abit long now with this high ms, we have give you guys a month on this and its not working. Dont know how long i can go on for, a month again?

This is slightly different to people in CPT where it is not a 'frequent' problem but a constant and permanent problem. Odd ;)

all weekend with bad ms, is this ever going to end?

Hey 'NiceLag' you don't happen to be working for another ISP trying to make mweb look bad, do you?
lol I mean your account name 'NiceLag' ,slogan 'On Vent : Sorry iv dc'ed, loging back in now!!' and 19 post all saying how bad mweb is ...
just makes me wonder

LOL Flip, im for sure am with Mweb 4m line and it was working great with 300-400ms on wow when i got my line about 4 months ago but its been bad from a month ago now and still it. Its fine for all games and thinks like that only wow is bad at the moment. Im all for mweb and its great to see there trying to fix it and i hope they do.

Definitely noticing this as well burn. Unless we have a really skewed representation of the WoW community here, or there is some strange demographic that means more Capetonians play WoW then I would say the problem is more severe In Cape Town.

EDIT: @Macross. As you can see we are very aware of the problems with WoW latency and are working on trying to resolve this, I would suggest you keep an eye on this thread for news on progress.
