MWEB Gaming Feedback

Well nothing ground-breaking has happened since our 'threats' to cancel. No fix for wow at all. BFBC2 has been aweful to play. Getting kicked by PB due to packetloss and the game in general just lagging out. (So is the experience 4 of my mates are having, staying at different places in and around CT.)

Ty for trying to 'free the web' but I feel choked running on your account. So to some other ISP, here I come. Bye bye Mweb.

Mweb's "high latency" crits Smirnov for 4000 000000

Smirnov dies..

i have cancelled my account, i didnt want to, i was hoping this to be fixed by now as it has been quite some time....
still got a month to use my remaining GB's, if Mweb fixes this issue within the one calendar month time frame, il cancel the cancellation..

To add my 2 cents in, this weekend I have seen a definite improvement in my ping to my WoW EU server. My ping constantly stayed below 300 (if only barely below 300.) I had no issues at all with my Mweb 4mb connection. I do use lowerping and connect to the England route. So there must be some hope for those who are struggling with their connections at the moment?

Are you also using the Leatrix registry fix?

Im also in CT... 4mb uncapped. I was having same shirt hole weekend aswell. Lets be straight here are u guys gona fix this sometime soon?? Or should we start looking at other ISP's?? Im supose to have such a imba line but my friends with there 384 lines laf at me :wtf: we keep hearing yeah u are attending the prob but its not diff yet?? And its been how long now :confused:

Some weekend feedback:

384k uncapped: Played WoW most of Saturday with 600-700ms lag, no MTU changes and no proxy services. Had the same kind of latency on Sunday from about 8:00-14:00, then everything went pear shaped and I had to switch to my backup account.

I think it would help LARGELY if people included their location with ALL complaints (or just in your mybb profile - I mean the option is there for a reason) and whether they are on shaped or unshaped packages.

Getting back into WoW next week (5GB patch download a bit much to stomach so rather going for the Cataclysm DVD to patch things) and have been slightly concerned how my experience will be due to the complaints on this thread, HOWEVER I haven't seen anyone complaining on an unshaped 384k package or in JHB/Sandton and considering I am on both the unshaped 384k package and in Sandton that provides me a with a morsel of hope.

Additionally the reason why I say this info would help is if unshaped connections (in problem areas like CT) do not have the problem then it would *obviously* be an issue with the shaping methods and if not then I'd nail it down to an area specific/routing issue.

Hi Nickd,

Nope I have no other additional systems/changes other then lowerping running. I'm based in Durbanville. Cape Town and my connections is 4MB shaped Mweb, just as an additional piece of info.

Hi Will, I know your trying very hard right now to get WoW working correctly but if you have any spare time I've been having a minor problem.

I play a lot of League of Legends. In game, this works VERY well, I never lag or have spikes and the ingame experience is +++++++++, as good as any unshaped account (286ms) and many kudos for this =). However, the LAUNCHER which uses Adobe Air I have been having a few problems with. Many timeouts while doing anything in the launcher which causes serious problems during champion selection (particularly in ranked mode), summoner spell selection and mastery selection. Other players and teammates (granted most are in Europe) do not experience this. My team often gets pissed off with me when I do not have the right summoner spells and champion combination because I timed our during selection.

If you have a spare moment from your WoW pursuits, could you look into this. It very seriously affects your ability to play competitively. Its like being given a random hero in a clan game of DoTA. BAD.

You have a 384 connection right. If so, LoL basically max out your line on the launcher. Note the download speed of your connection when you are getting those timeouts.

I have a 384 line and if i use my failkom account then there is no lag or timeout on the launcher so your argument doesn't seem to stand :/

yes it maxes your line, so kind of downloading data, need to wait for it to finish, i play fine on 512 line

Oh okay, well, guessing mweb 384 might not be giving you full speed atm, if you get 30kb/s max on your account through the launcher and it needs 35kb/s to load without timeouts then it will occur on mweb and not telkom. Your right, it is an account issue then probably. Check what speed its downloading at thou, just to make sure its actually a bandwith problem with the account and not something else.

Okay so an update:

I reinstalled my PC just in case (i also did it for black ops). WinXp on one drive and Win7 64bit on the other.

Ping was awesome this weekend on default MTU settings with battleping, didnt log in yesterday. As soon as i logged on this morning, it couldnt even load into a city. When it eventually got in a few tries later, the ms was 20k. This is with battleping.

The fix again was to lower my MTU to 960. Every time i run or new people/npc's load thou, ping jumps up while it loads to 800-900ish. It settles back to 320 when everything is loaded again. Never had this issue the weekend so i think that might be an MTU thing with loading new data. I fear that during raiding with allot of stuff going on it will also jump like that and stay that way, not really keen to find out first hand in our first cata raids, we are going for server firsts and im the main tank.

So whats happening? Was fine for a bit and seems it got broken again :( 7 days till cataclysm :(

@Will,

I don't know if you still need some Gauteng WoW figures, but I did some testing last night and these were the average results when connecting to the Fourways exchange (Northern Johannesburg):

Vanilla Mweb Connection:450-500ms
Vanilla SAIX Unshaped Connection: 340-360ms
Mweb /w proxy: 300-350ms
SAIX Unshaped /w proxy: 240-250ms
Mweb /w "Leatrix Latency Fix": 450-500ms
SAIX Unshaped /w "Leatrix Latency Fix": 280-310ms
Mweb /w proxy & "Leatrix Latency Fix": 280-290ms
SAIX Unshaped /w proxy & "Leatrix Latency Fix": 235-250ms

It seems as though the Mweb latency is decent enough to me, and I am by no means close to the exchange.
Judging from the above I would use Mweb /w proxy for regular play, and an unshaped account /w proxy for raiding....

In terms of latency when killing mobs and looting etc. the proxy solution seemed to be slightly more responsive than when combined with the Leatrix fix.

Another update: SC2 also not patching up now, connection problem. As soon as i log onto my 1gig afrihost account it downloads full speed. 0kb/s on mweb UNCAPPED
