MWEB Gaming Feedback

We are experiencing a problem with one of our International links. P2P services are running on reduced capacity until the link is restored. Seacom are investigating and we will update you as soon as we have an ETR.

Kind regards
MWEB Operations

ah. the dreaded seacom failure.

should've known. i guess there will be no good gaming for 2 weeks then. time to get a life.

btw seacom sucks if it breaks so very very often.

Last time I checked, I connected to a central WoW server which all players on my realm connect to and it (the server) sends out the information about all these players. There is no peer-to-peer connecting happening here.

True burn, but as a general rule you can expect gaming pings to suffer when the international links are running at reduced capacity. We cut back on P2P to offset this as much as possible, but you're still likely to see some impact.

So I just did a 25man raid, It was horrible once the fights began (even on single target bosses) My ms spiked horribly and were frequently followed by timeouts, I then went over quickly to my afrihost account and all was back to normal. I'm thinking that the sheer mass of data it needs to handle on 25man's is just not getting through the mweb servers : / Also keep in mind that I was currently on vent aswell so that's and added amount of data. I'll try to setup a 10man raid or something and see how that goes.

I must say considering I was in a 100+ cap fleet with 200+ support and extra's in eve last night, dual boxing and on TS, I find the fact that wowplayers can't play 25 man funny :D

Soz couldn't ressist.

Ok whatever you are doing keep doing it. Working 100% tonight. No packet loss, no weird delays. 400ms perfection.

K logged off now, but tonight was the best its been, was a little laggy in DG's and Orgrimmar but i managed to stay on Mweb the whole time with no problems. I would be happy if it stayed like this with the possibility of future improvements. Good work Will...

So Ive played a while last night, leveling my character. I constantly got a latency of 700 to 800ms. Its sort of responsive though. Havent done any raids or dungeons yet, so I cannot comment on split second precision timing, but will try it out when I hit 85.

Will@Mweb, will your network team be working through the holidays on this issue? Or is there any new developments?

What holidays? :D

Thanks for the feedback guys, please keep it coming, my own testing is simply not good enough right now as I only have a level 10 rogue :o I am going to do some proper leveling this evening though just so I can get a longer run of actual gameplay - theres only so much fun you can have with /dance in Stormwind.

We may also break something briefly this evening as there is a pivotal setting we have in place at the moment which we need conclusive proof of the impact it's having. I will be skyping with our network team while we test this and if the impact is negative it can be regressed quite quickly (apologies in advance if we wipe any raids).

Yeh something changed now, in the main cities i get insane latency when logging in. Outside it seems fine and stable.

I'm seeing the same thing, I'm not convinced it's us this time - can you check on another ISP - I don't have my Telkom account handy.

Edit:iIt's Will here btw - the team are taking the evening off :)

Seems to have settled down again - 550ms in Stormwind on LightBringer and it is packed :)

As far as we're aware everything is as it should be, we have a number of PS3 gamers at the office who are not reporting any issues with PSN. Player to Player connections will always vary greatly in quality if you join international games and there is unfortunately nothing we can do about SAIX peering at the moment.
