MWEB Gaming Feedback

Also experiencing it...

I am guessing this is an MWEB issue... I ended up buying Webafrica Unshaped Bandwidth... as my MWEB Unshaped Uncapped is Unusable on WoW... Initially I thought it was only my connection but what I am seeing now... kind of makes me think its a larger problem.

Just hope this gets resolved soon... or BB Mweb...

hmmm looks like its only none cape town okes having problems, though i know guy in durban playing fine.

could maybe the pta/jhb part?

I'm on the East Rand, and another guildie is also having unplayable lag. The strange thing is the Home and World latency readings in wow, report in the 300-400/500-700 range, which isn't bad, but the reality is much worse. It's more like the upstream is suffering, as downloads etc are fine. I notice when I try do something, I get a bit of visual lag. But if not, all is fine. Can fly around SW with no issues but try to mount up, and it takes like 3 secs to start, and everything suddenly start to run on the spot. Finish mounting and everything is back to normal.

One thing I must say for Mweb... Was playing at a friends house and played black ops on a London server with a 160ms ping... I could hardly believe it. Telkom/IS pings to international servers were like 230-300ms for the nearest ones. But 160 although not ideal is playable... Impressive. 20ms ping to cpt and 45 to jhb. Can't really complain with 160 to the UK...

Im getting the same with Lord of the rings online and Black Prophecy. Ping would be around 340 but would spike to a loss of 10% or more and it is getting more and more difficult to play MMO's online. It's not just WOW that suffers from it. Having a WTFast account would be great if it will help with the lantency problems. Switching to a backup non mweb capped account normally solves the problem but having to pay for an extra account just so we can play online is not the preferred solution.

I'm having the same issues as the ones stated above, I have a feeling it has something to do with their firewalling or routing I noticed in WoW my home latency (the latency to the battlenet services, auctions, chat etc.) is low around 250ms) however my world latency (the actual game latency such us players around you, damaged received or done etc.) sits at around 700+, this is not all the time though it seems to be a bottleneck on those ports or something. I think the ports that the world latency uses is getting loss or choke from something on their systems.

This is exactly what I have stated in my previous posts...on WA all was fine, low 200's in WoW...so, why should there be another reason than something at Mweb causing the laaaaags? After all the posts after mine, this was the first one to get to the same point ;)
I have not used my WA account for months, because it was all really good with Mweb.

I just wonder what Mweb changed in the last 3 days that has caused this bad lag in WoW, unfortunately I will have to look for another ISP if it doesn't get resolved I am MT healer in my guild and can't afford to have latency issues I am currently having. If Mweb need a list of the ports for WoW I will PM them and let them know what they are. I however have posted them on the thread below.

Hi all

I see there seems to be a bit of a spike of WoW related complaints over the last few days. @Taint just to bring you up to speed there is indeed a long history of discussion here primarily relating back to issues we experienced late last year. More recently the MMO experience on our network has been very good. If anyone has started having issues in the last few days please can you bring me up to speed on *exactly* what's been happening. I need the following info :

Where are you situated?
A tracert to bbc.co.uk (will give me a rough idea of your international speeds)
What game you are playing and what sort of in-game latency you are experiencing (also please specify Europe or USA)
How often and at what times of the day the problem occurs.

Please provide me with this info either here or in PM and I'll look into this. If there is some issue that's crept in I will make sure it gets top priority.

Thanks
Will

Thanks for the offer funkmail, but trust me when I say our engineers are giving WoW traffic 5-star treatment. It's possible that a small glitch has crept in somewhere over the last few days. Please provide me with the detailed feedback I requested as it will help me to narrow down the symptoms so that our engineers know what to look at.

Hi there Will

Haven't had a chance to raid but tonight I am raiding (didn't get a chance to turn on WTFast though!)

Home / World latency sitting in the 300-500ms range but very responsive with no disconnects whatsoever in Bastion of Twilight 25 man (full clear).

Wish I could have tested with WTFast but was told by raid leader not to bother as he wanted to get a move on :P

Well after testing WTfast, it does bring latency meter to the yellow but thers about 100-120ms difference between home and world and it causes lag about every 5 seconds. Using Battelpings 1hr unregistered proxy I get a better home world ratio and don't experience the same lag every 5 seconds.

Home ms = Chat boxes and the like
World = Everyone that's running about

Just to clear up some stuff

So.... 23:00 and then it starts big time... Both Guildie and I (JHB East Rand) had >10s lag.

Did a tracert to BBC...

Same as BluStorm, on the dot 23:00 2011/04/12 the lag spike started again, I will PM you all the info you requested Will

I do not recall the time exactly but it was surely somewhere after 10PM last night that things became dodgy on my Mweb acc. Running WTFast kept the ms between 500-700 but overall actions seemed to register more in the 2-3k range. I thought international was giving issues again but couldnt find any clues.

Bloody hell, my ping on Rift is an amazing sturdy 200,000ms! Stuck like this. What's happening??

Going to try the 1gb free Afrihost account quick to see if it's not the game playing up perhaps.
