MWEB Gaming Feedback

Alright you have rejected my statement now that you made it quite clear that player interaction is not P2P WHY does your latency go out of the wall when you interact with another player? or when you raid?
and if WoW isn't reconised as a P2P programs why does downloading torrents ***k the game completely? if you download torrents you can barley move in game please explain?
i understand that you acknowledge the problem YET what is the problem? whats causing it ?

And before you say that downloading torrents just hypes your latency that is most definately not the case in any game besides WoW. my ping goes up by maybe 5-10 in COD 4, COD 6, and CSS

Please explain whats causing the problem.

Read what he said...

They are LOOKING for what's causing the problem. Hence him asking for people to send him Tracerts etc. begone troll... :p

edit. Read your post again and it's clear you're one stupid troll??? :erm:

wow traffic does not treatment of normal p2p stuff.

though wow uses p2p data to speak from client to server.

now you running normal p2p with wow causing moe p2p traffic , then will be spikes etc.

i can play fine running torrent limiting upload slots and upload speed, though still spikes etc, cause it interfere with wow.

P2P is a specific set of protocols, utilized for the sharing of files. Our network utilizes state of the art deep packet inspection techniques to classify traffic using an extensive database of known types. Based on these classifications traffic is placed in different priority and assurance bands which allow us to protect sensitive traffic like gaming and real time video streaming from being overwhelmed by aggressive protocols like bittorrent. The only element of WoW which is classed as p2p is the pure bittorrent protocol utilized by the launcher for deploying updates.

Your experience in casual play and 5-mans will be very different from when you're raiding as you have a lot more data flying around between the various players and the world so any latency present will be amplified in those situations.

I can't tell you the cause of the problem that has been reported over the past few days as it is still under investigation. It's possible that an issue has crept in with a recent update to traffic signatures, or possibly an adjustment to traffic prioritization policies which has not had the intended effect. However until such time as I get feedback from our engineers this is pure speculation on my part.

Running torrents while gaming is never recommended, however I can tell you that I have personally tested this while playing WoW and not had the same experience you are describing so I would theorize that most likely your torrent application is utilizing settings which are too aggressive in terms of the number of connections you are allowing and this is killing the TCP stack on your PC.
Games like COD utilize UDP protocols so while they may be more sensitive in terms of latency they would be less susceptible to interference by bittorrent.

Glad to see some recognition of the problem from Mweb~!

This DOES however seem to largely be a time related issue so I wouldn't be surprised if it's working fine for some people right now (Rift is updating so I haven't played yet today to test but it's usually been fine again once daytime has struck).

Not sure how useful my info is but.

Game: Rift
Shard/Realm: Steampike

Problem occurs at EXACTLY 11pm each night and sometimes lasts all night and sometimes restores itself by 1am if I'm lucky. Game latency indication is erratic. Game will sometimes show 300ms while behaving laggy and then a second later show 1000-60000ms while still behaving poorly.

Thanks Basjohn, I can assure you we will give this one urgent attention. In terms of Rift it's my understanding that there is a firewall workaround that you can utilize that forces the traffic through port 80? If you're familiar with this can you try both with and without using this and let me know which gives you the better experience.
I ran some tests with one of the other Rift players last week and we specifically implemented a signature for Rift to make sure it was going into the gaming class however this will only apply if you are using the standard game ports not forcing the traffic through port 80.

I'd like to verify that this is working as expected though so if anyone who plays the game could test both scenarios for me and provide some feedback that would be very helpful.

Anyone else's steam downloads going really slowly? Was going at a average of 380-400KB/s when i bought the bioshocks and the orange box but only going at a max of 40KB/s today.

On a side note there are some crazy deals going on....borderlands is only +-R35

Hi Reddevil- have you changed your region settings to specifically use the MWEB steam servers?

Cod4 still getting twice daily lag ...... iGame, Wage servers. First time period is between 3pm and 5pm where latency is really terrible. Second is around 11pm where lots of disconnections and time outs happen but for a shorter period than the afternoon gap.

Mephisto can you please grab some command line traces / pings for me when you're experiencing the problem.

Great stuff :) I was just about to post explaining where to find it on the menus :D

haha, it seems i celebrated too soon, if went up to 400KB/s for a minute, and has now dropped back down again to 12KB/s.

I live in Durban, so i chose the joburg(mweb) server, if i choose the cape town one instead would that make a difference

The only other suggesstion I can give you is make very sure that you don't have anything else running , for example a torrent client idling. The Steam application itself tries very hard not to be a connection hog and tends to slow down quite easily if it detects other network activity.

no change today...bad, very bad, latency on MWeb, no issue on WA. Weekend ahead, probably have to live with it? Pay a second, rather expensive account just to be able to do online gaming?

Same here. Been having issues the past week I'm connected directly to the cisco router via static ip so no firewall issue and I still get more than 100ping on black ops. Can someone please look into this for us. I will help as much as I can

After many months of being trouble free....now there is disappointment slowly coming up
