MWEB Gaming Feedback

Hi M-WEB,

I am running on Telkom Wi-max 512kb/s and thus far i am very impressed with M-WEB. I have your Uncapped, unshaped solution and whilst playing WoW getting really decent Pings.
Having an uncapped service that is 100% unshaped and 100% non throttled is win win for me. I download steam games often and that means i burn through Cap quickly. While other ISP's throttle your account according to your line speed vs the amount i download i find that to be a bit unfair. I am forced to get a max of 512 kb/s and then if i download 1 game i am screwed.

So thank you M-WEB for offering Uncapped and most importantly 100% unshapped.

Thanks Madcat glad you're enjoying the service :) As a matter of interest why are you on the Wimax service and not a fixed line?

Hi Guys

Regarding the WoW complaints from last night I've discussed this with our engineers and it seems that the issue was isolated to our Cape Town network. It seems that there was a similar issue over the weekend as well with a traffic spike which but pressure on the priority traffic for a short period of time. They have put some additional monitoring in place to track this and manage it going forward and will be keeping a close eye on the situation.

Sorry Will but im in KZN so not sure how the CT problem would effect me.

why do i get this feeling that someone was replaced at mweb, and the new man in charge truly has no idea.

Bar_Rat looking back through the posts it looks like you've been having intermittent WoW problems since midway through June, or does it run back further?

I think we need to consider all the factors on your side thoroughly, have you spoken to MWEB Guy regarding line and congestion checks etc?

Last night my internet disconnected 2 times but all the lights on the router was fine

Mweb always try to blame other things. its the throttling taking place in games. for example im having problems. but yet when i switch to a WA 1gig account ( SHAPED NOT! UNSHAPED ) i get sub 220 MS at all times with vent + Raiding and browsing the net.

Please can we just have our world of warcraft back to what is should be. not shaped or throttled or anything. let it be! :(

Retards Guide to Mweb Shaping v0.1c

Somewhere distant there is a coin flip. But this coin flip is like no other. It is not performed with a R1,R2 or even R5 coin, this flip is performed with a R10 note to symbolise the flakyness of the shaping proceedures.

mweb man in charge: "Great news everyone, World of Warcraft won this weekends lucky flip and players will be able to play with sub 300ms again. Sorry steam and p2p people, better luck next weekend"

mweb man in charge: "My work here, is done.See you all next week Friday at 4pm"

The sad thing is, when us WoW players are going at it, our traffic throughput for the evening is miniscule compared to most other users who would typically pull more in terms of YouTubing / Downloading.

I play on Twilight's Hammer and i get this when i try a trace:

Now that latancy looks fine to me, but i cant even get off loading screen before i get disconnected....

Pinging the IP gives no response so i presume their firewall blocks ICMP requests....

Last night I had the worst connection and latency to my Rappelz servers in the US - we had a Siege (similar to a Raid in WOW) and it was unbearable.
Don't know what the MWEB engineers did, but it behaved nicely since I asked them to add the game signature to their London shaper,

At one point last night my Ventrilo server in London had a 24000ms latency, and people where struggling to hear me - I don't have a speech impediment !
So I switched to my friends uncapped account on another ISP, and it was nice and smooth sailing again for me.

So I am sorry MWEB, but this type of see-saw behavior is not something I have time for. My cancellation will be put in place end of this month - ENOUGH

I would be if i could be, 4 years ago some friendly people decided i do not need my copper wire and took it home and sold it. So for 4 years i used 3G, pretty damn expensive exercise. Then all my neighbors got free wi-max installed, but not me!. took another 8 months for helkom to install wi-max for me. And here i am. :D

Ouch at your UI :P and yeah more ouch at your ms. i have gotten really decent pings on WoW. so cannot complain.

I'm based in Durban as well and have had issues playing WoW for the last few days. I've had to switch to my backup adsl account on each occasion to play. The game logs in fine and so long as I'm in a non busy area - the latency is low and the game is responsive - the moment I go into a battleground or highly populated area - my latency starts to spike and little lockups occur. This implies throttling.

Joining a 5 man dungeon. FIVE MAN. to test my connection. i lag on the first! mob in ZG. and disconnect. sigh , mweb , please sort this out. its been going on for over a week now. with NOTHING happening when i call in. No , its nothing! on my side. i have a perfect preformance with other ISP accounts. its crazy that we have to buy cap from other ISP's due to our own not giving us CONSTANT service. its never the same week after week.

a response would be appreciated. from someone who wont tell me to do a few tracerts and then give me an excuse that its beyond the mweb network.

Nice to see selective responses, Sorry if i sound full of S**t , but these problems are insane. tons of ppl are having them. and the responses im seeing are to things that mweb ACTUALLY care about.

From a traffic management point of view there is nothing further that can be done in terms of WoW prioritization, there has been no change in WoW ports or anything of that nature.

I don't see any significant pattern in the complaints being raised here which indicate a widespread problem, other than the fact that a handful of you all seem to be from KZN, which I can't really make sense of as we don't actually have any network infrastructure specific to that region.

I did acknowledge that we had two incidents recently that would have impacted on Cape town users. Other than this I cannot offer any insight into why some of you are experiencing these intermittent issues so all I can offer is troubleshooting assistance on an individual level.

Well, tonight my Mweb account is unplayable again. Latency of several thousand ms in WoW. As soon as I switch to Axxess account, its fine (236ms home, 280ms world.) Definitely something up with Mweb.

Same here even in an unpopulated area in WoW i get 600 ms, guess im gonna have to get a WA acc to raid with on WoW
