Hi. I just upgraded to 1MB uncapped (yesterday afternoon) with mweb and now my steam cannot connect.
Is there anything i can do to get this working?
Can anyone at mweb confirm a problem connecting to the steam servers?
Is anyone else having a problem with this?
Please help.....
I don't think there is cause for concern. If games like HoN and LoL run fine then I don't for see a problem. Sure, maybe if the screen is chock full of monsters and magic on a 384k line you might get some lag but I am betting MWEB will most likely add this to their big list-o-games.
I need to read the discussions around this in some more detail, but the impression I got is that they were referring to the fact that the game won't launch without an Internet connection available, rather than saying that you could only play it online. This is really just about beefing up their anti-piracy mechanisms and taking the strategy they started with Starcraft 2 up a notch with the achievements and certain game modes not being available unless you were logged into Battlenet.
As I understand it, D3 will ONLY be online/Realm play. The Auction House and community aspects are what Blizzard is pushing, so you have to be online to use the game, but also, you can only PLAY in online games:

They are doing this to combat piracy, hacking, duping items, etc. especially now that they are offering RMT (real money trading). They keep saying that it is all about improving the game-play experience, etc. which I guess is true, but D2 "Single-player" and LAN play are both gone in D3.
Hmm I see what you're saying. In which case your question about connection speed may well be valid. A lot will depend on exactly how they're implementing this client/server architecture they're talking about and how content is instanced for online play. I'm imagining a lobby-based community and trading environment and the ability to zone into the game as either a solo player, or for a co-op, or competitive session rather than a fully persistent universe where everyone was running around together.
I can't see why they would want to take that route, although it begs the question of where Blizzard sees Diablo's future in their strategy? Are we looking at a simplified version of WoW using a micro billing business model as opposed to monthly subs?

D3 is not a MMORPG and won't become one that I know of. No idea on billing, but it is unlikely there will be additional charges after purchasing the game if the game has to be used online. This is part of their roll-out of the new Battle.Net 2.0 systems. Not having playing much D2 on Battle.Net and not being a WOW player, I can't really comment much on Battle.Net. No idea yet even if they intend to limit the geographical regions which can access the servers. They certainly are focused on Northern hemisphere: US, Europe and Asia pretty much. I don't think they even know that the planet has a Southern half![]()
Cataclysm shouldn't be the last WoW Expac, if the "leaked" product slate is anything to go by.

Yes, I just killed a kitten. Anywhooo, WoW isn't dead yet!
For Diablo 3, as far as I can understand, you can play a solo campaign but you still need to be online to do so, just like SC2. How the AH will work, I guess thats if you play online with everyone running around.
