MWEB Gaming Feedback

Hey Will,

I'm having problems signing in on Steam with my Mweb Uncapped account. Is there any particular reason why this only happens during office hours?

Nothing I'm aware of Xennox. We do see the occasional steam authentication complaint, but they are very few and far between (and quite often from the same people) and we are not able to replicate the issue. This leads me to believe that these are more likely to be backhaul issues than something on our network. Do you see any other symptoms other than Steam being unable to connect - such as an increase in latency, poor speed test result, or packet loss?

D3 is online-only, but you can play single-player games (questions 3 and 4 in the box). It uses a client-server model though, so the single-player game will probably still actually RUN on their servers, not locally on your machine (of course the game will run locally on your machine -- I mean the actual game world/interface/backend/server thing will be on their side). A question further down refers Australian players to SEA and NA (South East Asia and North America I presume), so still not much love from Blizzard for the southern hemisphere.

I'm battling to connect to COD Black Ops servers.............. is getting a bit frustrating.....

Hi there,

Im not sure if im the only one having this issue but I cant connect to EA online (BFBC2), when I try to search for servers I get the message - cant connect to EA online. The login works, stats seems to be correct also. Any one else having issues?

Edit: Seems to be an EA issue, works now.

I play on Steam often from Gordon's Bay and have no issues on my Mweb 4mb uncapped line. Even saw 400kb per second download of one of the games.

Hi there

I would like to know who is the best ISP for gaming cause lately mweb is not living up to it's promises. I would really like to move away from them and I don't like afrihost so please don't recommend them.

MWEB making excuses for shaping gaming so why on earth would you go with them if they shape it. thats what a technician told me the other day. I mean gaming is a big part in my life and owuld rather have capped internet but if my gaming is perfect I will go for it.

NB. I play battlefield and call of duty games.

Mweb is becoming an authorised EA Partner so they will be hosting BF3

will can you comfirm this?

my friend posted that, not sure where he got the info.

Steam no go for me tonight.

Other stuff appears fine, goes full bore when I turn it on.

Are you using torrents? Because regardless if you stopped them and then started Steam (I hope someone at MWEB takes notice of this, as I wont be mentioning this again), Steams port somehow gets added to the shaping pool when you are or even have downloaded torrents not too long before. I find the only way to get Steam back up to speed is to firstly close all running p2p apps and then redial the connection. I found this to work 100% of the time.

Having a hard time connecting to BO servers for the last 1-2 weeks if i'm lucky is get 5 RSA servers in the list.. But my Cell C modem gets around 50 servers. Probably going to cancel my uncapped next month this is BS!

Haven't seen any press releases yet, but this would be great. Seeing as they host black ops and BFBC2, I'm sure they have plans for BF3. It would be silly not to, since BF2 is over 6 years old and is still played by South Africans today.

Any solutions for the steam connection issues?? Haven't been able to connect since the weekend.

I also logged it with steam and mweb did also yesterday (thanks). here is the feedback they gave me from steam if you want to try it. I want to test it over a 24 hour cycle before I give feedback that it works or not. Hope this will works:

Hello Willie,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).

Delete all of the files in this folder except:

The \Steamapps\ folder and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo)

Restart your computer.

Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.

With Steam running, re-test the original issue.

Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.

If the issue persists, make sure your network is optimized for Steam:

Hey Will

This morning I Updated Aion and the updater would only Download @ 20KB/s
I thought it was maybe only their servers that had problems but when I started to play I found that my latency was kind of bad.
I did a speedtest and only got 50KB DL on a 1MB line. That was to a local server.
also a ping test to google gave me this:

Ping statistics for 168.144.110.11:
Packets: Sent = 140, Received = 135, Lost = 5 (3% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 340ms, Maximum = 369ms, Average = 350ms
