MWEB lays bare IPC ADSL costs

Well done Mweb! I commend you for this!

I look forward to hearing Telkom's reply to this
Kudos to Mweb - Telkom not going to be happy with those costs going public

Would be great if IS would release some figures, its always Mweb

Does the IPC bandwidth costs include some other form of access?
Nope thats another cost , IPC transits ISP internet bandwidth to ESR
ie Port Elizabeth (for George, PE area) -> Telkom DSLAM -> Customer DSL Router

If anything, it's also showing how and why MWEB squeezes so many customers onto their service without allowing for the extra bandwidth.

Many of the ISP's have laid their own fibre from Joburg to Cape Town and other centres.

It would be interesting if ICASA allowed these ISP's to connect the two IPC sites via their own network, say for free, thus bypassing the SAIX backbone cost. It would probably be cheaper than using SAIX.

As Trevor Manuel would have said :"This cannot be..?"
Would like to see Telkom's explenation, probably the high cost of capitalization.

Anyway amazing how much bal*s Mweb has. Whos' their mamma?

This is becoming a good show. And surely this is a matter for the competition tribunal?

Telkom's Explanation -

Dear User,

Please stop asking for explanations as you will have deduced, we have none.

If you would like to know what we did with the money in the past, Ask Reuben September and his crew as we are concorting our own scams right now to rape you in broad daylight.

Please note that this will be in your own interest to keep quite or we will shut down the internet and/or take you to court and we will make sure our Legal Counsel procrastinates this case for the next ten years and NO LOCAL LOOP UNBUNDLING wil take place.

Now shut the Fku up and pay pay insane rates for ADSL, IPC etc, while we laugh all the way to the bank.

PS. If any of you need to vent your anger go swear ESKOM, they increased our electricity and their bonuses.

Regards
Telkom Media Centree

This means that @ R539 per month for 4 Mbps uncapped, the first 14 customers contending for bandwidth is paying the Telkom IPC!!!

Telkom: R1827 per Mbps
SEACOM: R267 per Mbps

Something is wrong with this picture....

VERY wrong, I don't understand why ISPs should have to use Telkom for national backhaul between CT and JB in the first place??? Can't they rent fibre from DFA?

There are some other gems, like Telkom discount structure that increases IPC costs - WTF.
Only Telkom and I probably Eskom could have a discount structure that works out MORE expensive rather than less. Wow. And they probably thought the ISPs wouldn't notice...

Ja, MWEB really are trying to actually provide some facts and figures for the public to digest, pity IS doesn't see it would be in their interest to do the same. Telkom can't argue if the figures become public knowledge.
