Mweb sent out an email, saying they are doing the whole local uncapped thing, which basically means once your dsl caps, you can download/browse,etc as much as you like on South African sites- for free.

Its pretty good news(despite that it is just a trial), I dunno how many other ISP's already do it- but its pretty awesome XD

Sorry if this had been mentioned before/common knowledge just thought I would post it^^

Perhaps paying the extra +-R50 or so for a 3GB account from Mweb has finally paid off :D

Would be funny to see all the leechers saying that they're switching to Mweb now :D

yeah Mweb has UBER nice prices <----- lol, lol!!

Base Cap Up to 384kbps Up to 512kbps Up to 4MBs
1 Gig ............. R219.............R399..............R499
2 Gig...............R279.............R469..............R539
3 Gig...............R399.............R549..............R579

how are they able to subsidide the free local bandwidth if they in turn have to pay saix for it? surely it could very expensive if users decide to abuse the promotion.

I'm actually going to try my luck this month and see how much I can push my TI (3gb) local cap... I'm not alone, a few of my friends are going too as well.

I'll give them a call once I have done say, 50GB and see what the 'possible' damage is... if nothing is mentioned, I'll make notes of who I spoke to etc so come end of month, when I get bill, I can fight it.

By blaming telkom staff! ;)
I normally have this habit of getting away with murder ;)

You wanna fight a bill with Telkom? Lol good luck keeping your sanity.

do you think with this mweb trial thing if you use say 100Gb they can charge you? doesnt mention any t&c

How do you push it to 50GB? I'm capped already on TI 3GB at 6.8GB.

Has anyone tried this yet? Would make the R150 for 1GB of M-web bandwidth worth it, if the local is then really uncapped...

i'm just puzzled....saix is charging every reseller per gig...altho their partner Ti. gets a bunch of slack due to volume...

now...how can mweb go about "free local" ?

i don't think it can.

verizon won't - they don't offer it at all , I.S won't at that price ...and saix doesn't do free local.

so besides the only 3 tier1 providers..where can mweb get this..

don't think its reality.

Maybe they are using Neotel?

Last November it was reported that telkom had a subscriber base of 120k and Mnet 100k. Is it unreasonable to think Mweb is also getting a volume discount?

EDIT
What do I do once my data cap is reached?

Good news for all MWEB ADSL customers. As of 1 February 2008, MWEB is launching a trial program offering local-only bandwidth to customers who reach their data cap limit - which means you can enjoy continued access to Internet services hosted in South Africa after you use up your monthly data.*

For the duration of the trial, you will be able to access local websites, services and content free of charge whenever you exceed your cap . Local-only bandwidth refers to websites and Internet services hosted in South Africa, i.e. data is transferred from South African-based sources.

This means that if you reach your ADSL cap, you will still be able to:
send and receive your MWEB e-mail as usual
surf any website hosted in South Africa
Continue to access your local Internet banking
... all at no additional cost to you!

Should you want to access to international websites, services and content (i.e. international bandwidth) after you have reached your cap, you have two options to choose from.

ADSL customers can choose between two Booster options once their data cap has run out.

Pay Per MB. Pay only 20c for each MB you use. New ADSL users are automatically set to use this option.

1 Gig Boosters. Buy in bulk, R99 per 1 Gig or R250 per 3 Gigs. Unused Boosters are carried over to the next month (the carry over is only valid for one month).

You can change your Booster option each month by going to My ADSL.

* This is to conform with recent regulations issued by ICASA regarding the provisioning of ADSL services.

^^ if data is obtained from saix - they are imho not going to get the type of discount Ti has....

and i really don't think Saix would give mweb better options/treatment as Ti

Who says SAIX is necessarily giving them better treatment and not just the same ones they're giving TI?

How many people are going to take it for all its worth? All mweb has to do is shape the heck out of 119 and thats NNTP taken care of - throttling torrents beyond usability isnt impossible to fathom either.
