Mweb Local Uncapped Trial

They should have a realistic price for local... not R20 p/gig. more like R1-5 p/gig.

For R1/local gig I'd buy quite a lot ;)

Thing is, local is meant to be FREE. So says ICASA and their regulations. There is no need/right to charge for it at all!

I know it suppose to be free.. but I think SAIX well lets put it this way... disable/trottle/cap their no-name-svr, torrents and ftps. There is nothing like a free lunch in this world.

SAIX see that its easy money ...

Yip. Free local that you can't do anything with. Sounds like SA internet to me :(

Well then ICASA needs to pull it's finger and ensure that SAIX provides local to ISP's free of charge. I imagine that during this free trial mweb is picking up the bill for the local.

I would imagine so. And they must be finding some way to pass that cost on to the customers. I am not sure why they are trailing it though, unless they are getting their bandwidth from somewhere else, which is not possible.

I'm guessing you want to ensure there is no bugs which is why there is a trial, i'm sure if someone figures out a loophole to pull international it's gonna cost a lot more.

It's a sorry state of affairs unfortunately, and we have the joy of a toothless regulator.

I dont expect Neotel to bring much too the table tbh ... <sarcasm> we can all see how well our 3 Cellular Networks have done to drive costs down </sarcassm>

Meh ... i've taken this O/T ... apologies ... lemme get back to pulling to *nix distributions .... why ... i dont know ... because i can ;)

You mean after all these years of paying M-web a premium, I might actually be getting some value from them this month?? ;) I think I joined M-web in 1998... so let's see... ten years of excess charges... hmmmmm... I might have to pull 100 gigs for a few more months to make it worth it :D

(there were other reasons why I was using M-Web as one of my ISPs other than price alone in case you were wondering)

mweb is quite more expensive. R140 vir 1 Gig, where even TI is R70 vir 1 Gig.

I don't think mweb is "losing" money!

It seems you can take this contracts month-to-month as well. If they keep it going next month I will be sure to get one. Heck, I could do some damage with the 10 or so days remaining in this month :)

I would be doing a lot more damage if this stupid computer didn't keep shutting down for really weird reasons!!

and besides that, my 820 Gigs is nearly full... I'm running out of space... need to start backing stuff up really fast!!!

Go forth and leech :)

I had to add two 750 Gb drives to allow for more space for what I was downloading... that ended up taking two days cos I had to reformat... but I did manage to save the grabit batch download and import it into the new installation. All I had to do was save the Grabit download folder (under my documents), then I copied the grabit folder from program files (probably did not need that but anyway)... then lastly I copied the grabit folder from Documents and Setting/Application Data. Finally I re-installed grabit over the top of all that and presto I had saved my batch download.

but the whole re-installation thing knocked me out for more than 24 hours... and now when I finally get back online the local news server seems to be overloaded... must be more people running local only this close to month end. :( I only have about 75 Gigs so far. How is M-web gonna be able to do a fair test unless I hit 100 Gigs this month? :p

Good work. If they keep this going into March I am going to get an account to test as well. Nothing else could justify paying R145/GB.

in other news, I lost one of the old hard drives that I had saved some of the stuff on... it just died completely... see my thread here..

not a lot of the new stuff but I lost a lot of my old stuff as well... a friend of mine might have a backup of some of it... but I fear most of it is gone... all I can say is back up the stuff you just downloaded! :p
