Mweb Local Uncapped Trial

Does anyone know if the trial is set to continue?

I phoned Mweb on Wednesday, the trial will continue next month and then after that there will be a review. The catch is that the trial is only for current Mweb members and new signups don't get the uncapped local.

Thanks for the info! :) I'm really enjoying the trial (not abusing it though ;))

We just don't have enough local content or access to ever "abuse" it! :p

It's a sad state of affairs when you have all this bandwidth and you have to sit around waiting for something worthwhile to download!

Talkom has made sure of that!

:(:(

Wise move on their part if you ask me.

I only ended up getting 78 Gigs last month. :( the servers get so overloaded at month end that it is almost impossible to download anything.

but this weekend I started again... I got 33 Gigs from Saturday through to Monday morning on my M-web 2 Gig cap... funny thing is... my International access stayed up the entire time until I disconnected this morning. Maybe it got treated as one session... but it's been a long time since I used over 30 gigs of Int. :D

when Telkom did a similar thing I think I ran up two months of 90GB. The first 90 was easy. The second was very difficult. I got download fatigue.

EDIT: from Nov07 to Jan08, my blended/local usage was roughly - 20/290. In all 3 months I did over 85GB of local. The last two months really was downloading for the sake of it. I'm sure I filled up most of my 30Gb last month with superfluous stuff that stands a good chance of being deleted. I suspect that even if the US Tv series season starts running at full blast again, it will mean I fill the 30GB with good content rather than with any old content.

It in osme way proves my point that Telkom would face most of the barage on its system in the first couple of months. Then when we got used to 30GB international access we would be blase about downlaods. Provided of course all of this was at same or preferably lower prices.

I think you are right, if users had free access to local, the average would settle around 20 to 30 gigs a month. It would be a rare month that we would go over 80 gigs.

ok... question time!

over the last weekend, I downloaded over 33 Gigs from a local South African server and did some international browsing and downloading with my M-web 2 Gig SAIX account (Full access). My usage page on the M-web site tells me I have not yet hit my 2 Gig cap. I am sitting at 1.9 Gigs downloaded.

Is this because Telkom's usage tracker is screwed up? Or Does M-web have a way of telling that I only used 1.9 Gigs of International amongst all the downloading that I did? I didn't think it was possible for them to do this. Maybe Telkom can distinguish our international from our local, but they just refuse to do it cos it is more money for them. The question then is... why is M-web doing it?

I doubt they will continue the trial when the obvious result is that a tiny portion of users will download +-100GB while most customers might use the service lightly if they can afford to get capped.

That doesn't make much sense for them as long as they pay SAIX per gig for local. I suppose they will do the same as Telkom did after their trial and allow a smaller amount after your cap so that everyone can use some local without a few people costing them too much.

:( Hopefully Neotell allows (much) cheaper local if that is possible without going through SAIX.

i can't get capped internationally:C
I'm trying so hard but I can't. For feb, I got to 90% cap and realized feb has less days XD so I couldn't use it up in time.
