The point is that Telkom doesn't hound its customers and check if they use a VPN.
You will be flagged as a 'high usage client' or similar and accused of all sorts of things. It won't matter if any of it is true since MWEB claim they don't need to provide a reason/s for terminating anyone's service.
Money.
The network is MWEB's responsibility. They cannot defer that responsibility to any particular user/s. If Granny Smith's Mudkip gallery is taking 5 mins to load then it's not my fault. Sure, I was using all my allocated bandwidth at the time, but my contract is with MWEB -not MWEB's other clients. 'tard

Hi Racer, i'm afraid you are confusing me with some one else, hate to tell you but i'm not a manager. Otherwise you would be the first on my list to be served. I dono which restaurants you are going to and why you want to be there before anyone else? That is beyond me. Just to let you know usually i'm going late and i stay till late. And you know what 600-800Gb is FA data by most international standards. I think i'm very reasonable once the capacity of mine line is more then a 1Tb and i'm using only half of it. Be happy!

MWeb isn't hounding anyone to check if they use a VPN, they'e said they specifically don't shape VPNs because they want people to use them for work etc. at full speed. What they don't allow is using a VPN to bypass shaping and then download huge amounts off P2P using that VPN. These are the only people they've contacted so far, except for k_k apparently.
You really have a silly anti-MWeb bias. I mean you chose Telkom as your ISP that's meant to make MWeb look bad in a useless comparison?
Yes, this is all obvious, that is why they don't defer that responsibility to users and instead shape their network. What does that even have to do with what I posted? I was saying they won't just kick every user who's using a download manager off their network, like you and xrapidx were claiming they will. So.. reply to that rather?

one thing - anecdotal evidence points to 4mb users being targeted. so which means it is not a percentage of theoretical usage that they are concerned about. but rather a total number. unless we are to belive 384k users would never use VPN or SSL to achieve full line speed.

The restaurant analogy really doesn't work... your example needs to be updated to include:
1) Customer has paid for all the food that he/she is intending on eating
2) Manager tells customer that he/she can only have carrots and only when nobody else wants carrots
actually the analogy does work! the reason the manager tells customer that he/she can only have carrots and only when nobody else wants carrots is because Glutton has already eaten everything else! That's called shaping

took a screenie of my grabit transfers...this speed is JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE (I have a 4mb line with telkom and 4mb uncapped with MWEB) at this time of the morning when the "so-called" CEO of MWEB on record stated that there is no shaping in off-peak hours

it seems tanya may be right. the T&Cs here do not seem to mention what the CEO mentions in this thread. Which begs the question if the T&Cs were changed, when were customers notified? In fact I have just looked at what I signed when I joined, and none of what is mentioned in this thread is there. And I have no correspondence from Mweb telling me of an alteration of terms.
Those T&Cs come from this page which so nicely entices people to get this uncapped service.

If the shaping wasnt so hetic we might not have wanted to explore other options. Yes yes, i know, i was still wrong, but its not like they perfect are they...
Looks like quite a few sneaky moves are coming out, I support the uncapped movement, just not when its done in a sneaky way. My only hope is that another ISP will step up to the plate and this will not be an oppertunity for other isp's to start raping their clients

You're comparing a product that limits itself to between 3-10GB and afterwards cuts you off until you pay more, to one that for a marginally higher cost, affords you 10 - 100x what Telkom does. Additionally, the caps are a crude (and easy) way of restricting traffic, if you use 3GB on a VPN or 3GB on HTTP it's irrelevant, because after that 3GB your connection is toast. M-Web is giving you much more than that and is just asking that if you wish to download you do it through methods that allow them to share the bandwidth fairly amongst everyone.
Oh, and (unless this has changed) Telkom shapes VPN's quite heavily on their shaped accounts.
Ah, the life long argument of the pirate. "If software wasn't so expensive/bad/unreliable/whatever I wouldn't have to pirate! It's not MY fault, it's THEIRS for being so greedy!". Man that argument is such a poor justification for activities that are both illegal and unethical.
Some people steal ADSL accounts so they can pirate software, literally stealing money from those users and/or ISP's, others are happy to get around any restrictions ISP's put in place, literally stealing money from the ISP (and in turn degrading the service for everyone else). These people whine about greed and justify their behavior away, but in reality they're the ones being greedy and unethical, wanting it all for themselves, and effectively saying "screw you" to people who actually work for what they have.

Same here bud, nzb from 7pm upuntil 6am it downloaded a total of........431megs on a 4 meg line.
