It would be interesting to know how many MWEB clients got the boot, maybe it's only a few really "bad" users, if thats the case I wouldn't judge MWEB so harshly.

If a small minority of customers are causing trouble and network degradation for MWEB then MWEB is not providing much bandwidth at all.

If I was Mweb I would view using VPNs to bypass shaping restrictions the same way Eskom would view someone putting a magnet on the side of their meter. You are abusing the system, end of story.

VPNs are not illegal internationally and they are not an issue anywhere else in the world. Who do you think is correct here, MWEB or the rest of the world?

Yep, please read the thread AGAIN. MWEB CEO said UNATTENDED DOWNLOADS is against their TOS. Now what do you understand with that trivia question? Looks like they themselves wonder what are their real TOS.

Regular use of our ADSL Uncapped service in an inappropriate manner which is affecting our other customers’ internet experience is seen as unacceptable use. This includes:
• Sharing accounts: where one user shares their ADSL connection with other users
• Unattended use: where a user installs software that allows continuous downloads and uploads
• Bypassing our shaping policy: where a user intentionally hides bandwidth heavy downloading
• Using their connection for commercial gain: Connecting and charging users to access their ADSL line for commercial gain

You should also check out section 12.2.8 of their T&Cs too, it pretty much gives them carte blanche as what abuse is.

FOR PRIVACY - the reasons VPN accounts are sold around the world.

MWEB needs to tell all customers that this is a crippled account and many things are simply NOT allowed.

The comments I've seen have been to do with using VPNs to bypass shaping, not privacy. It's a completely different matter.

Huh? Thought I made that clear in my previous thread.

VPNs can be used for secure connections between two computers.
VPNs can also be used for bypassing ISP enforced protocol shaping.

The latter is what I am talking about. I'm sure Mweb would be willing to be more leniant on legitimate VPN service operators but the only ones that advertise and seem to be promoted around here are for the use on torrents and the like.

Thats my point. Then the CEO come here and spin stories around in circles clouding, the matter even more. Maybe he should take his expensive car for a service and leave matters to those that understand the Internetz and what it is all about, SHARING, a different Lifestyle for many, a gaming platform, a source of information, ENTERTAINMENT, etc Not fsucking E-Mails. They must still wake up and look at how they can cater for the clients not just see how much money they can steal of us. They do not pay per GB they pay for capacity. So Please Mr MWEB CEO, go do research and see how you and the rest INCLUDING the GOVERNMENT defraud the South African consumer. Even other countries specked below ours are having a better Internet experience and systems. Why must we always be screwed for the last penny.

Do not get me wrong I appreciate what you have done so far, but do not think we are stupid. If we can max our returns it would be done, without cheating. Else change your clauses and specify, No 24/7 internet use, No p2p, No News servers, No whatever make us enjoy the Internet., then really call it always on internet but not the South African version of "Uncapped".

Sure but that's all that I want. I want MWEB to tell me - look you're doing 150GB pm now, if you pull 150GB per month on a VPN or not, we won't care. We just don't want people to do 250GB pm without a VPN and 200GB pm with a VPN. That is considered abuse. If we know what abuse is, we can avoid it on our uncapped accounts. That's all I want. I just want people to be reasonable. If they tell me that their uncapped account is a 50GB account only and 51GB is abuse I can live with that, I will either buy a few extra GBs or move over to another ISP. My problem is that I don't want some high school kid banning my account and then I am stuck without my email addresses - what do I do then? All people want is to be treated with respect. MWEB's actions of banning users arbitrarily with no warning seem very disrespectful to me.

There is no oversight and due process or right to appeal in MWEB's process. For those of us who sit with old pre-1999 email accounts MWEB now owns we are stuck . When I ported over to MWEB uncapped I didn't know MWEB would behave this way. I actually believed the MWEB CEO guy and though - these guys are ok- but now, well now that a user could be kicked off by some nameless employee somewhere is pretty bad. I once tried to get hold of a manager at MWEB - it was impossible. Those guys run away and avoid contact with customers and their receptionist is rude.
