After checking my 3gb mweb account, i noticed i went over the limit.
i was like WTF!! is mweb the only ISP that does not have auto cut-off
and no notification. Im now being charged R200 extra for 1gb.

i Have a 3gb CAPPED account., do they know what CAPPED means.

i sent out 2 emails to whomever i could find, that this is just not fair.
and i cant pay this. they could deduct the used cap from next month’s cap.
tho ofc mweb has no customer service and i have wait 3 days for and reply on an email. so they just went ahead and debit the amount from my account.
i never agreed to be debit for an extra amount.

lol TnC got me good.oh well 1 less customer and lifetime of bad mouthing.

Have you tried sending Will@MWeb or MWEBOperations a private message on this forum? They are usually very good at sorting out problems experienced with the ISP.

Good Morning Janseng

Please PM me your mweb account details and I will ensure you receive a call from a consultant to assist with your query.

Kind regards,
MWEB Ops

Your own fault, its your own responsibility to check your usage. The usage notifications is only something extra for your convenience

I totally disagree with that. It's called a CAPPED account. I am not sure what MWEB's contract or Terms and Conditions state, but its a CAPPED account and they should ensure that it gets cut off when the capped has been reached. I did support for a client and they had an MWEB account and it got cut off and we then had to phone MWEB to purchase another gig. Maybe things has changed, but thats the way it should be. Telkom works like that

And who has time to go and check everyday what there usage is and what they can still download, why should a person do this ?

all other ISP offer me beter service, im getting like SMS and emails constantly.
i dont disagree that its my fault, i know now to read the TnC more carefully.
however to use fine print to trap customers into paying way more than quoted is
a cheap and low way of doing business.

but whatever its over now ill pay that amount, eventho its overpriced and slower than the norm.even if i did contact a sales rep to say i dont want the extra stuff the day i made my account.

i already cancelled my account, and opened a new account with a ISP more suited for me.as i yawn at TnC.

no, i dont agree and thats a bit harsh to be honest

if its a capped account then it should be CAPPED why allow the user to go over the set amount and then charge a hectic amount for it. that is wrong.

Hi Everyone

There is a selection on the product which indicates if you as the customer would prefer to use a cap, or usage based billing model. Janseng if you provide all the necessary details to the representative that contacted you we can investigate this properly and come to a suitable resolution.

Kind Regards
Will

MWEB capped accounts let your specify what "happens" when you reach your cap. You can either (1) have no further access until you buy a booster or (2) continue browsing via the "Pay per MB" option. The idea of the latter is that your browsing is not "interrupted" by having to manually purchase the booster.

You have got to be kidding me. This comment is flawed at so many levels

u have 2 options u pay 20c per mb or u pay R99 for 1.5.

i would choose non of the above.as i only use my mweb account once or twice a week.

Then take the "booster" option and when you reach your cap, you just don't buy a booster.

If you have to pay R200 EXTRA, it seems you are using your account more often than you think?

problem is when i checked my usage, it said 500mb. so i loged off at my modem, next day it was up to almost a gig.
so how would i know when im close to my cap?

Remember that Windows and/or anti-virus software may be set to update in the background automatically. If you leave your computer on for a few hours, may megabytes of updates could be downloaded. The details on the website will only update at the end of a session, so you may have used X megabytes today, but it will only reflect on the website tomorrow.

MWEB will send an SMS and/or email to you with details about your usage according to what you've specified on your account pages on the website. I have no idea what the default settings for these are for new users.

It's really not a good idea to rely on the SMS alerts though and ultimately if you are cap watching the best thing you can do to have the most up to date view is to monitor your own usage locally.

EDIT: janseng I'm also a little concerned that your usage increased that quickly as you say you don't use the account very often. If you consider your activities on the day in question did any of them seem as if they might be bandwidth heavy, perhaps you watched some youtube clips, downloaded some files, or had some updates download as SabreWolfy suggested? You should also make sure if your router has wireless capabilities that the access point is secured, or ideally disabled if you don't use it at all - I know some users who have even removed the antenna to make really sure!

MWEB has adopted the TELKOM business model that has worked all this time with the South African consumer. I'd like to show them my T&C's when I don't pay my account.
