MWEB reduces uncapped ADSL prices

Telkom dropped their wholesale price by a huge margin, the first time in years its done so, you are being left out of the benefit basket & still you're actively defending your ISP for giving your potential saving to someone else? Wow, I had no idea you were SO happy with your existing product that you'd not fight for a reduction.

No wonder SA consumers are raped left right and centre. You have no balls.

There are a lot of things wrong with the SA Telecoms market, but I just don't think Mweb is one of them.

The 4mb account was MUCH better value for money than the 1mb account, all mweb have done is improved the value of one of their other products (1mb accounts), now there is less of a difference.

Faulty analogy is faulty.

If you saw a price reduction on the 250g and 500g bottles of Ricoffee, most people would expect the 1kg tin to also get a price drop.

+1, really thought I would be able to upgrade to 4 meg, it's just that tiny bit too expensive at the moment.

Well a 1kg bottle of Ricoffee still costs less than four 250g bottles. (Actually even less than 3x250g bottles). So buying the 1kg in bulk is still a better deal.

Hah! Not always - buyer beware - at my local PnP I always double check - you'll be surprised how often the sneaks charge you MORE per kg for the bigger bottles/jars...

I think this could use some further clarification The IPC (IP Connect) links are the data pipes we purchase from Telkom which allow traffic to flow between our network and ADSL customers on the Telkom backhaul. This is wholesale capacity which we provision for use by our customers and has no relation to the ADSL line rental pricing of individual users.

As you can imagine this is only one of many costs which make up the provisioning of a network the size of ours as you also have peering links, transit links and international capacity to consider just for starters.

Savvy? “

And considering Mweb's penchant for insisting on debit order payments, it will simplify their paperwork too because I for one will be happy to continue to pay R299 and having my line speed doubled.

1024 line is R199
4096 line R539
If you were on exactly the same price as the 1mb line then you would be paying R796 (R199 per mb)
the smaller lines speed users is contributing more towards your line speed
As for that give them a chance I’m sure there will be 4mb and 10mb improvements

This is only assuming that the 4meg customers actually downloads 4 times as much as the 1meg customers.

1) Telkom drop is 30% accross the board.
2) ISP's claim that IPC is the biggest portion of their monthly expence.

Did you even think that MWEB will be pocketing the 30% reduction on every single one of their other products, and you're ecstatic over nothing but a vague promise of an 'enhanced network'. Amazing, you guys have very short memories and you will never learn.

I repeat, despite your objections you're a pushover that love being screwed. You will continue to bend over until you learn what it means to use your collective power as consumers to fight back against being overcharged.

Might as well go out and buy those e-tags, Treasury did say that it makes economic sense after all!

thanks for the quick feedback! we're not high end users and i see telkom has a 1meg line package, with 10gigs per month at R499 pm, which includes all line rental (voice as well). that would work out slightly cheaper if you only need 8 to 10 gigs?

the 488 with mweb doesnt include the voice line rental, so to get that on top wouldnt save money for most with a telkom package? i'm obviously not looking at the 100's of free minutes included, i'm just trying to make sure we dont move and end up paying more in total for the phone line and adsl together (with a few calls ofcourse)

My total monthly bill is R349 to Mweb (uncapped data + Line)
