MWEB reduces uncapped ADSL prices

Hi Dolby

Not 100% sure what the R140 is for because the R488 p/m includes line rental.

Yes, lets pretend the extra R140.00 is a confusing amount he pulled out of his @$$. Its required for internet, you know what its for. I know mweb is not responsible for the telephone line cost, but in reality there's always an extra R140 pm.

Nice going Mweb. Not too sure if I can wait longer for Afrihost...these new deals are looking mighty tempting.

Could not agree more. Afrihost used to be the market leader in pricing innovation. :erm:

Now they are being left behind by the competition.

If I do not see a quick & decent response from them before the end of the month, I will be giving them 30 day notice on my account.

It says that the 384 has also been reduced to the same price as the 1Mbps... so is it correct to assume that there is no more 384 and if you are on 384 you should upgrade for free?

from what I have read you will still be on 384 if it is all inclusive since they would need to upgrade your line
but if you are on data only package then it is free upgrade

as for 384K users they can also get the saving but they will need to call MWEB to increase the pricing on your line portion

Yes, but that is for the data only. If you remain on a 384 line you will only get 384 speeds. However, Telkom might be helping out the 384 users if the rumours are to be trusted ;)

i see on mweb's site that the line rental and data for a 1meg uncapped works out R488. as far as i know telkom charges 140 for line rental. is it better to just take the 199 data only deal? looks like it!

we have 1 of those all inclusive deals with telkom where you get free minutes etc. adsl just on month to month.

the telkom site is so badly designed, it takes at least 10 minutes to get some clarity.

wish we could cut telkom out completely

The R140 is for voice line rental only. There is an additional ADSL rental fee you need to consider and this is what is included in MWeb's R488 bundled price.

Ridiculous? We know.

Brilliant!!. I will promote MWEB to anyone. Their customer service is efficient and always helpful. And know to drop their pricing. Truelly a ISP for the people!!

And hopefully soon the 1mb will be converted to 2mb. That DEF makes more sense.

Guys...

When Telkom updates their line offerings (384 -> 1mb, 1mb ->2mb). the 384 will be coming into this newly reduced price 1mb account. (so 1mb = +- R199 for data, R150 for Line rental).

The 1mb (data account) will not be upgraded to 2mb! Hopefully Mweb will create a new data offering for 2mb users, priced somewhere between 4mb (R539) and 1mb (R199) and with Line rental of R290 (so 2mb = +- R380 for data + R290 for Line Rental)

And 4mb still = R539 + R413 (which is still a very well priced offering, and offers great service levels)

Telkom charges R140 for a residential line. For 384kbs DSL you pay R152 for 1Mb you pay R289

Hi Helghast

The 384 Data Only packages will be automatically upgraded on our side as of the 1st June for existing customers.

384 All Inclusive packages will benefit from our price reduction on the Data portion. Please bear in mind that we can't upgrade the line as this is Telkoms infrastructure.

MWEB!!! you have changed the face of internet in RSA for the better!! Thank you!!

so if telkom were to drop the 1Mb line to the 384's price, it would be
R140 + R152 + R199 = R491?

Well done MWEB!!!

Expect an announcement from OpenWeb soon where they will sell a 1Mb line for R198.

So you guys think Mwebs pricing model will change if the 1mb gets upgraded to the 2mb by Telkom?

Hi Tank101

The charge of R140 is for the voice portion of the line. The ADSL portion is a seperate charge altogether.

If you take the 1Mb package of R199 p/m, you will be charged by Telkom for the voice and ADSL line rental.
