MWEB - SEACOM OUTAGE UPDATE

@Meb operations, what protocols will be enabled tomorrow?

Lets wait till tomorrow and see how the sourced bandwidth will cope with the network load. It was stated that SEACOM managed to source 50% of our normal capacity. But anything would be better than no international at all

Thanks Mweb

Well done MWeb, I see I can get overseas sites again! Thanks for all your efforts. :)

:/ No gaming for me, damn steam hasnt connected since yesterday :/
Oh MWEB are u a partner of seacom or just a party using it for connection?
And will u guys be using the EASSy and WACS cables???

Good evening all,

Message from Mweb ISP CEO "The prospects for the next 24 hours are not great. We have a very small amount of bandwidth on SAT3 which we are using primarily for e-mail, and there's very little chance of us getting more from SAIX. Some of our customers are able to connect via the SAIX Wholesale network but Telkom will not allow us to add any more users because of their commitments to FIFA for the SWC. SEACOM can get us about 50% of our total requirements through alternative carriers but this will probably only come on stream at about noon tomorrow. We're pursuing every possible option that we can and if the situation changes we'll let you know (via e-mail and via MyBB). I know we say this all the time, but we really are grateful for your patience during situations like this. Please believe me when I say that this has our full and undivided attention right now."
Thanks for the update!!

**Mweb Operations missed this one.

T&C on their website. So the answer is probably no.

Thanks MWEB, dave, agreed!

Also, pro-rata refunds will be a waste, R40 at most?
And where is the money supposed to come from? If SEACOM doesn't refund them anything how do they source the money to refund us.
+ They are spending extra to source other sources of bandwidth for the downtime.

EASSY WE NEED YOU

Thanks for that. Have managed to get through to MWeb technical who confirm that the modem is locked. The guy on the phone said I could download new firmware which would unlock it. That sounds quite drastic - not sure all the default settings would be appropriate? I'm thinking I should get a second modem for connecting on prepaid SAIX. Any suggestions on where to get one in Cape Town and cost?

errrr... nope. just flash the new firmware buddy. much easier & cheaper. ask for help on these forums if you need it. just find the appropriate subfolder.

What this all highlights is that Tata can't be considered reliable at anything, least of all telecomms.

And what that comment highlights, is that you haven't got a clue.

Seriously, go investigate a bit more before you start throwing around unfounded accusations like that.

@MWO Thanks for the update!! When you know what traffic will/won't be allowed, will you mention whether MMO's are on that list?? Kind of eager to get back to some STO :o

I switched to my Afrihost account last night, It managed to download 2 X 130mb (2 PC's) Steam updates and 2 X 350mb New MW2 Map Packs. It ran at full speed! I also played MW2 no probs on Afrihost. Hmmm wonder where they sourced their bandwidth?!?
