MWEB thinking about 10Mbps uncapped ADSL pricing

As far as I know, you can move a lot more data now that they've revamped the. I was told they can easily do 250GB plus before throttling, and it will never drop below 2Mbps, even when throttled. They've also dropped the price on their Unshaped Business to R2497 on 10Mbps.

On Afrihost, I mean

They are just taking advantage of people who dont know that there is a difference between throttling and shaping. They make it sound as if they dont have restrictions, by highlighting one restriction which they dont have.

I'd rather be throttled during business hours while I'm not home, and then unshaped and unthrottled at night time when I am home (how telkom uncapped works) than the Mweb way of shaping at all times. Whats the point of going with Mweb unthrottled if I can only download at 13Kb/s on a 10mb line because of shaping.

You clearly haven't used mweb before. I haven't noticed any shaping of any sorts, my downloads go full speed any time of the day, and I get 20 ping in local games.

Now compare this to the time I used uncapped gold with openweb (another IS provider), and I even paid extra for the "premium services". After a month I was throttled so heavily I couldn't game at all during the day, my downloads were non-existent, and I browsing was a nightmare and this will persist until late in the afternoon even the evenings sometimes. They would give me new accounts, but that only temporarily fixed the issue for like a week at most.

My advice, stick to mweb for now as they are the only company that offers true uncapped.

I never experience throttling on my 1Mbps MWeb line. Torrents fly during business hours. I also get a ping of just over 200ms during and after business hours to Guild Wars servers in the US/Europe. World of Warcraft is the same..so I don't know where people come with this.

That is alot of money for internet. Especially if you use it at home.

I'm still pretty new here, but what would a person actually use a 10MBPS uncapped line for at home? I can understand a business using it, but not even gaming needs those speeds. The only thing I can think of, is unfortunately piracy...

For the love of dog, there's always one 'download the internet' anti-piracy evangelist in every thread!

Stick to 384 if you can't see any benefit & leave the grown-up stuff to us mkay.

I would really appreciate if mweb also looked at the 4meg offering! Even if a R20 to 40 decrease was on the cards!

They where able to pass on some savings to the lower end don't see why they can't do the same for the bigger guys!

If MWEB price this account at R899.00 then it is right where it should be in terms of that sweet spot :D.

Anything more and they just wasted our time imo.

But don't get me wrong, any pricecut is appreciated just don't be stupid about it is all i am saying. :p

+1 to grim and Qwikslver

anyone using a isp that is on IS backbone is waisting their money. i had openweb(nice offerings) even axis all the same problem, IS throttling

I believe MWEB was running 4meg at a loss before. Hence no discount.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm on Openweb GOLD with IS and my account flies. Usually get around 480Kb/s because I have a faster than 4meg line.

Torrents fixed, Afrihost 10mb uncapped..

On my last IS Gold account with OW I had 0 throttling. It ran at fullspeed 24/7 for three weeks.
Friend of mine has an IS account on Gold now and gets throttled during the day.

What's the diff?

I have a 10Mb line at home, albeit not uncapped but I would definitely move to uncapped once it is affordable.

Get off the heavy users are pirates bandwagon.

I work from home mostly so the speed is nice when you need to get things done quickly.

Heavy traffic usage that I do normally is: Video conferencing, downloading new software releases to test(Easily 2-4GB per product), transferring databases to and from remote sites, streaming video, downloading legal games(SWToR: 22GB, D3: 8GB).

There's many other high traffic uses people use at home, I use between 70-100GB each month easily. Just because you're a heavy user doesn't mean you're a pirate.

Nevermind all the software updates for my 2 PC's, Laptop, Phone, Tablet, Xbox and all the software installed on them.

Stop blaming piracy for heavy usage.

Simple example: If I had a 10mb line I could play Tekken 6 online, because that game has really kak netcode, so lags on my 4mb line
