Hey guys,

I have been busy downloading games (~100gb) for the past week and now I think I'm probably throttled. I wanted to know how long the throttling will last for. Some people say it should stop as soon as usage goes back to acceptable amounts. What is acceptable. I usually do about 3-4 gb daily and I'm on the uncapped 6 Mbps package.

Afternoon Gamebot145, please provide me your MWEB account details via inbox messaging and I will provide you more detailed feedback.

Agreed : Left MWEB after 5 years with them , best choice i ever made .
Loving my Vox uncapped ! Mweb `s free the web campaign died and have lost quite a couple of subscribers due to my recommendation (new start ups as well as existing users leaving for greener pastures on my recommendation)

They are just are not a good choice anymore.

That bad huh? I personally haven't had a problem with them since 2010 when I first got adsl.

It's only now that I downloaded a game on psn that I went over my "cap" on a supposedly uncapped service that I am slightly annoyed. I understand the need to ensure that uncapped users don't abuse the system but seriously it's the first time that I've gone over 150 gb and I have to spend the month of black ops 3 release with a 0.5 Mbps internet connection while my two roommates stream movies and surf the web.

So only when my previous 30 days of usage add up to less than 150 gb will I have my full speed back? That's going to take me weeks:(

You don't know what you have been missing until you try it. Get a capped product from anywhere but Mweb because they still shape p2p downloads during they day.

switched when the whole shaping/throttling debacle happened and it was the best choice i've ever made, i'm now on Afrihost 1mb Business and pull 200gb a month easily, torrents go full speed during peek periods no problem. haven't looked back.

The figures are 2mbps +- 70gb and 4mbps +-110 gbs.

This is crazy for the price you pay.

Hardly. But if you feel that way, upgrade from Standard to 2Mbps (200GB) / 4Mbps (400GB) Premium.

Of course, people who think that good internet means being able to download lots, should probably stay away from MWEB.

This is not throttling this is a dead line

So I expected to be throttled, I thought I was okay with it, but have a look at this speed test result! This is on a 10mbps account and line that normally syncs at 8.5mbps +

I was even okay with torrents being dead during the day!

In my opinion this is completely unacceptable.

When I phoned the call centre I explained to the guy that I expected throttling and I was okay with it, I assumed it might be half my normal speed or perhaps a quarter. NOT this. He said well if it was half your line speed do I think that my usage would increase or decrease? WTH obviously it would increase as I use the internet. I have been updating games and redid my ps4 and need to download game software!!!!!!!! urgh...

Now I enquired about cancelling and its a calender month so I would have to stick it out until the end of December? What K*K is this?

I should be able to cancel now and move to a new ISP first of December.

Mweb, you have made me a very unhappy client and I plan to be VERY vocal about this on social media in order to stop any other friends of mine falling into the same trap!

You agreed to the FUP and you're also aware of the limitations. I don't see how you have any right to complain, especially when basic services still work.

If you were on a capped account, you wouldn't even be able to reach Speedtest, let alone MyBb.

Link to that FUP, please?

Especially where it gets VERY specific about data limits and throttling speeds...

I can't understand how these are relevant. He has no right to complain. He's gone over 250GB and if he wants more, he should upgrade to 10Mbps Premium (950GB) or move to another ISP.

Also, he knows what the limits are as I spent quite some time helping him find a better alternative to Openweb...

It's sure been smooth sailing up until now.

Ignore the mweb dingleberry and just ditch the clowns. Lots of options out there for far less cost that will let you use the internet as it should be used.
