You misunderstood (I dont think I worded it properly) The 40gb was the max I got on Afrihost 2 months ago. As we speak I havent gone past 100mb within the first week of joining mweb. And torrents have worked perfectly since I got uncapped in April. Its been the past 3 weeks that I have barely gone past 3kb/s.

Btw...how do you download from mweb's news servers?

Yup...imagine my disgust after reading all the praise in this forum the past couple of months about how much mweb > afrihost, only to join mweb and get 1/2 dialup speed. Did speedtest as well to check whether my http is affected as well but it came out at 33kb/s which is ok for 384. They are throttling my torrents to hell and back though, which is stupid because a) its 384kb/s --> why would you throttle it under ANY circumstances? and b) i only JUST joined, its not like ive gone over any sort of threshold.

I'm now running SABnzb, along with my own PHP script to automatically download my stuff for me :)

I've already done slightly more than 8GB this month on my MWeb uncapped 384kbps and I'm not downloading 24/7.
I'm basically just downloading from MWeb's news server and visiting random websites, and I'm sharing the connection with my family and a friend of mine, but none of them download torrents or from file hosting sites.
 
Well even the link to the MWEB news server is being throttled to death tonight 1-2kbs max:wtf:

Just check speedtest - .33 down / 0.11 up

Ping to Newlands: 106
Ping to Jhb: 82

One of my customers who had also been having mweb issues, albeit on a 384 line got this email from mweb on 2010/10/05 07:29:51 PM.

Dear MWEB Customer

It's been a frustrating couple of weeks with the ongoing upgrades to our network. We've had significant challenges with Telkom and how they route traffic between our two major IPC nodes, but it looks like the worst of that is finally behind us!

The Telkom issues have unfortunately delayed the upgrade of some of our international capacity, as we had to divert resources to sort out the national routing issues. The first planned increase will now take place this weekend between midnight on Saturday and 06h00 on Sunday morning. During this time normal browsing and e-mail will operate as per normal, but bandwidth-heavy applications such as Peer-2-Peer will not be available.

The good news, however, is that we have decided to bring the next international network upgrade forward by a good couple of months, to be completed in the latter half of October.

By then we'll have increased the size of our network by just over 50% and considering that less than 30% of our base was previously using the SAIX network, that should give you a fair idea of how much additional capacity you'll have at your disposal.

We do apologise again that this has all taken slightly longer than anticipated but at the same time we think you9re really going to enjoy the improvements we're making.

I am not sure if this applied to the problems we were having, but it does seem rather much of a coincidence no?
