MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Just activated my brand new Mweb uncapped account (1Mb).

Speedtest.net is very erratic tonight. But I get speeds from 1.2Mb to 0.20Kb/s. Wifi AP is not the best there is at the moment.

I have set up smokeping to ping a couple more servers, will make for some interesting stuff.

All those AH users hogging the test centers

I am having a what is spiralling into a huge problem with Mweb and Telkom. I am moving to a new property and decided to put my application in at Telkom to have the line moved on 1st of Nov 2012 (to be moved on the 1st of Dec, when I move).

Doing so I get told by Telkom that my line is apparently on 'wholesale' with Mweb, and they own my line, and they cannot do anything while my account is as such. I have not authorized this at all, for them to take over my line.

Now for the last week I have been bounced between Telkom and Mweb, each telling me to sort it it out with the other.

Mweb stands firm that I am not on wholesale.

Telkom stands firm that I am on Mweb wholesale.

I am utterly stuck now because neither can give me an answer, other than the above. Time is running out, and I wanted to put this line move application in soon as possible since it can take up to a month for Telkom to get around to it.

Seriously frustrated here and at wit's end. Any help would be appcreciated.

My phone line is still down  I got an update sms from telkom and they said that they are working on getting my line back up. Pffft! I'm pretty sure that the problem is due to cable theft. It will take a looong time to get my line up. My life is ruined now. Now I understand exactly what it feels like to have my home blown away by Hurricane Sandy.

SpeedTest results:

Just out of curiosity does anyone know where the "SA Server" is located when doing local test and where the "International Server" is located when doing that part of the test? It would be interesting to see the route it takes to get to both.

As far as I use it - The local is selected by and the int, you have to select yourself?

This is speedtest.net, not sure which you are using, as you did not link to anything.

Apologies. using link from the mybroadband site - http://speedtest.mybroadband.co.za/

Will use the other one now. Know about it but thought the resources should still be the same? I'm interested in seeing the routing cos it might show where the biggest latency is and possibly where the congestion / bottleneck is?

ok folks... i'm calling it a night. no use styaing online when everything is running at snail's pace. Nite All! Catchup on the thread in the morning.

Hi Gimaru

I got your PM and I have responded. Please let me know what you find.

The same torrent is still running at a solid 6-20 Kb/s. Even opening this page took nearly 25 seconds.

Seems we are getting the same runaround as the AH users. There were many excuses until Gian admitted they screwed up.

Just wanted to do one more test before i go to the land of nod. Mybroadband's "SpeedTest" site and speedtest.net definitely show different results. Does the mybroad test use a SAIX local server?

SpeedTest.Net results
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2294918623.png - LOCAL
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2294923739.png - US
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2294933631.png - UK

MyBB Speed Test results
LOCAL: 75k DL , 38k UL
International: 67k DL, 28k UL

This is why I would like to see the location(IP Addresses) of the servers that MyBB uses.

Theoretically with 85% utilization of full line speed you should be able to do 390MB/hr (for 1Mbps) if my calculations are correct.

(((1024/8)*0.85*60*60)/100) = 391MB

Is anyone else having no joy with the news servers? It's doing that weird connecting-for-hours-but-not-downloading-anything-at-all thing again .......

382.5MB/Hour at 85% utilization(((1024/8)*0.85*60*60)/1024).... but you're never going to get a constant 85% utilization 24/hours a day on any network. What are you downloading torrents? Nzbs? All p2p traffic is best effort as well. If it's http downloads that's different.
