Still don't even have local access. At present I can't connect to any website or load anything. Seems like the backup isn't kicking in on my side.

Mweb service seems to be shiite. Where is the backup sevices???????????????? Mweb are cheapskate. I have a 4M premium account and I can not get any international sites or reach my e-mail server. F Mweb, time to move along.

Hey guys I'm sure my post will probably get lost in the noise of today's SEACOM link failure, But I have been struggling with my ADSL line's QoS for a while now.

Basically the problem is I'm getting high latencies on various hops in my tracert and this results to a very bad online experience. This has been happening for 8 weeks now. And it is becoming really discouraging when I cant even stream 240p YouTube videos without buffering time needed.

I have had long correspondance with MwebGuy on twitter and the Mweb rep on this forum to fix the issue and they defaulted on saying it was a telkom issue. fast forward to last week, telkom tell me that they see no problems their side.

I have done everything from testing with other routers and no avail. I do feel like it's my ISP since I tried using those free 1Gig Afrihost accounts and everything went swimmingly... unfortunately i have alreaddy exhausted it for the month.

Here is a tracert to youtube.com that I took on March 12th 8am

Code:

Outage Num:14964
MWEB IPC outage affecting All areas
MWEB members in all areas will experience degraded international internet browsing, email and other internet services due to a SEACOM link failure. Our engineers are investigating with Seacom. Traffic has already been rerouted. Please note that we are not at full capacity and shaping on non priority traffic will be in effect.

It's up to you. Personally, I wouldn't be comfortable having Gmail available with one click in my browser, as locking my PC constantly would be shady, and inconvenient. I think it's time to upgrade your phone - the term 'smartphone' applies to almost everything on the market. What exactly are you using? If I have access to my desktop then obviously I'll check my email on it and not my phone.

I skipped the most important point before: any professional has a real email address, which requires an email client anyway. Just add Gmail to that.

Samsung GT-E1081T

Locking the computer when going afk from it is as simple as pressing windowskey+L. I'd be more worried about people being able to access my mail by simply unlocking my phone should my phone be lying somewhere or be stolen than I'd be concerned of someone accessing my mail on my desktop computer at home or work.

And any professional can set up mail forwarding with most mail servers so that they can use gmail to receive and send mails using their 'real' email address without it ever being apparent that it's actually going to and coming from a gmail account.

Should have called the thing SEADUD or SEADEAD instead of SEACOM. Soooo sick and tired of this crap.

Maybe someone can come up with a better name to properly describe this cable that seems to have a heart attack every 2 months.

I know this won't solve your problem, but you you can use my 1GB free account if it will help during this month?

i might be wrong but the problem ain't Seacom but Mweb. So direct your anger at them rather. I saw Afrihost getting full access and speed in an earlier post

Yeah... it's a ****ing mess..

I would suggest:
a) Transfer your line to Mweb, then they have to sort it out.
b) Get another ISP. It seems Mweb has grown to big to fast.
