MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

I would suggest:
a) Transfer your line to Mweb, then they have to sort it out.
b) Get another ISP. It seems Mweb has grown to big to fast.
I just signed up with Mweb a week or so ago and had some issues with int bandwitdh, 4mb line running at dialup speed practically.
They just said line is with Telkom, hamba!

So this is a little OT, but what do I have to do to get the line with MWEB so they can be a little more responsive, and what does it cost (extra?)
thx

Login to http://myaccount.mweb.co.za

There you can transfer the line.

It doesn't costs anything extra.

Hi All

I received some feedback regarding the outage.

Seacom have confirmed that the current outage is being caused by cable breaks in the Mediterranean
They have not confirmed how long this will take to fix and they are looking at restoring capacity via alternative routes asap.

We are currently running on our backup WACS capacity which is just over a third of our international requirements.

Seems like the news actually got a bit worse for the SEACOM guys
:(

Multiple subsea cable cuts have been confirmed off the northern coast of Egypt in the Mediterranean Sea, which are impacting a number of cable systems in Africa, Middle East and Asia connecting to Europe.

SEACOM is currently working to establish restoration options on alternative capacity across the Mediterranean Sea and also by adding further IP capacity in Asia.

It is expected that it will take some hours to confirm options and arrange network re-routing. SEACOM will contact customers directly to discuss restoration options.

Both Afrihost and Axxess seem to be streaming prices(financials) with no problems from servers in LDN and NY.

MWeb......once every 15 minutes (including bad ticks)

Promised myself to have a calm and collected day and not to use that F...word.

Something must be wrong on your side mweb as international is completely down for me, and MyBB is barely browsable as it tries to connect internationally for somethings, your "backup" is like its not even there.

I don't see any backups because I can't browse -anything- at all. Cept here, since this is local. Not what I pay for though.

Cannot access my dropbox at all, international pages are just spinning on the loading icon, making me dizzy @.@

Locking the computer when going afk from it is as simple as pressing windowskey+L. I'd be more worried about people being able to access my mail by simply unlocking my phone should my phone be lying somewhere or be stolen than I'd be concerned of someone accessing my mail on my desktop computer at home or work.

And any professional can set up mail forwarding with most mail servers so that they can use gmail to receive and send mails using their 'real' email address without it ever being apparent that it's actually going to and coming from a gmail account.

Rerouting all your mail through Gmail? Man, I would find that painful. Most people have a password or pattern lock on their phone, as is possible with Outlook.

Look whatever, to each his own. I'm just saying I've never known a single person who actually managed their email through a web browser. Telling someone that I can't access an old email because the internet is down or my data connection won't connect would be preposterous. And most people I know have at least three email addresses, which any desktop client can properly separate along the left pane.

Very OT
90% of the time that I use Gmail, I use it in a browser.

You can separate mails in Gmail as well by simply setting up labels with custom filters, such as ones coming in for a particular address.
You can also set up a desktop client to also receive a copy of all your mail from the mailserver as well as for mails from Gmail to leave a copy at your mailserver to be fetched by your local client before being sent off to their destination. I don't remember the specific methods of getting it set up, and it may sound tedious, but it's far less iffy-sounding than you might imagine.

I'd far sooner be frustrated with being unable to access a mail because I'm not at the desktop onto which it was downloaded locally than I'd be annoyed with being unable to access it because 'the internet' is down. In exactly the same way as you can say that 'everyone' has a smartphone these days, 'everyone' should have at least two completely differently routed methods of connecting to the internet available to them (as well as a third emergency fallback in case the backup failed - such as a neighbour or friend with a different inet connection or a nearby restaurant or w/e with inet and wifi).

I also enjoy the fact that there's virtually no chance of a Gmail downtime whereas mail servers at hosting companies can and occasionally do just fall over for no good reason - just as undersea cables get breaks in them and ISPs have to scramble to get all their clients rerouted across backup connections.

*edit* Oh yeah, and don't get me started on mails lost from failed hard-drives or people taking their computer to a 'computer shop' that 'repairs' it by reinstalling windows without ever backing up the local mail archive thingies.

MWeb's continued use of seacom as their primary provider doesn't reflect well on their commitment to their products or customers.

Amazes me, I would assume most of us here are on the Premium service, and the backup system has a 3rd of the capacity. Please explain how you cannot have a backup system with full capacity, for a Premium service??

IMHO Seacom is ok, it's just that their backup capacity is completely useless. Whenever they say they're on backup capacity when tehre's a Seacom fault I can't even use Gmail.

I'd be happy with just 128kbps up/down on my 4MEG line if it was reliable during these problems!
