I would like to know the ETA on SEACOM providing alternative temporary bandwidth, even should the internet be slow during the repairs it would be acceptable under the circumstances. What I also would like to know is how Mweb provided redundancy with a previous SEACOM outage and why not now?

Paypal were unusable all day and now seems to be loading slow, I’m too scared to even process a payment regarding all the timeouts and disconnects we are having.

In view of no open play of status, I forward my own speculation. Looking back over recent experience before current Seacom fiasco, Mweb bandwidth and protocol throttling/shaping/what-not, deteriorated over a significant period to suggest normal capacity had to be managed because of over-utilization/cost cutting/policy changes? Therefore the current redundancy capacity incapability simply amplifies the case....

Maybe all these other companies had something to do with the cable cuts. :O

Also, anyone done the 5gig FNB thing? How can you check if your cheque account is qualified or not?

Two or three hours ago everything came to a halt. Clearly the shaping isn't working so how about throttling everyone to one third of their normal speed? I've had some pages take over 90 minutes to load, if you've got 30 % bandwidth rather give us a proper 30 % of our line speeds, or even 20 %. Drop 1mbit users to 384k, drop 2mbit users to 512k, drop 4mbit users to 1mbit and drop 10mbit users to 2mbit. You're then reducing the maximum potential traffic to less than 30 % of the normal, so everyone should in theory get a very stable connection.

They won't or can't, because the premium uncapped accounts are not supposed to be throttled, it's what makes the mweb premium uncapped different to the other is p's. If they throttle premium accounts then they will be going against everything they have been telling us for years. Maybe even break one of their policies.

I'm using it currently :)
Check FNBConnect.co.za or call them as well if they say you're not applicable.

I registered and got the 1 gig and my account is a cheque account, Im just wondering where do you look on the site to see if you have it or not. Or do I have to wait till next month to see?

Only says I got the 1 gig at the moment

Also, I don't understand why I can't browse properly, can't even go to google properly, can't mail - but I can play LoL just fine to NA servers. Why is their priority on gaming at this time?

Just got a reply from Mweb Guy on an FB message. It's only locked older routers not a general all-inclusive thing.

 Not sure when we got the router, but Yes ours is a MWEB Billion 7401VGP Router which is ISP Locked to MWEB sucks... Have been with them way too long it seems..
Will have to get another router or hack the router somehow...

It shows on the FNBConnect website. With the option to buy more. Their service was better on Friday. Seems it has degraded here on my side as well a bit...

Routers are cheap nowadays - TP-Link for under R500 will do the job just fine

Edit: If you were in Cape Town I could have given you one of my spares to try out

I have also one of those; got myself a backup router at the 2010 month long Seacom outage and a WA prepaid account loaded....using it now and works out 100%....just wondering why I have to pay more bucks then the already hefty fees to MWeb? If i keep things down I will need about 2-3 Gigs/week prepaid

I don't mind they throttle this time.

give me something that at least can have decent web browsing. thank you. :(

After the last few days of MWEB fiasco and mwebguy regurgitating over and over and over - ad-nausium - the totally unimaginative and unhelpful canned response ... it's embarrassing! ... I'm an EX-customer as of tomorrow morning when I can cancel my contract of several years and signup elsewhere. Cheers MWEB. Been a ride, but no more.

Really feel for the folk who have "unlimited bandwidth" websites with this company ... if you have any international customers (we have 85% or more), my guess is you lost a lot of business ... now and long term. Thank the goodness our sites were never with MWEB. Right now, I would not accept a free website from them if they paid me. Seriously.

Sorry MWEB for this very negative response. Truly am. However, all I've seen in this thread since Friday when it all went South is a repeat of the original statement. NOWHERE has there been a response to the hundreds (yes, I counted them), angry customers asking why you have no redundancy/backup plan. You guys are the biggest provider in the country and you have left ALL your users out in the cold. Not Acceptable. Sorry, not good enough.
