MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Doing the same, I actually used up one account did not realise how fast the torrents were downloading. Really impressive stuff, and Youtube as well never a stutter or any lag. Now if you go back to Mweb, with this "Premium" crap, when can we not do the same??

Haha you're still downloading torrents on limited bandwidth?? You're one brave man! I'm managing this 5gb like I did back in the day when Hellkom used to rape us! I don't want to have to fork out for more gbs unless I really have to! Just hoping Seacom comes back to normal before that happens!

Wrt Youtube though -to be fair I think these trials are all unshaped bandwidth - the "premium" accounts on Mweb still remain Shaped and I believe Mweb does shape youtube a fair amount these days! :(

Ironic that I get full 4mbit/s on NNTP downloads, but HTTP crawls in at bytes per second IF the pages even load... Seems TOTALLY backwards to me...

Same here. been that way since Friday. Taking full advantage

They won't or can't, because the premium uncapped accounts are not supposed to be throttled, it's what makes the mweb premium uncapped different to the other is p's. If they throttle premium accounts then they will be going against everything they have been telling us for years. Maybe even break one of their policies.

The alternative is to provide buggerall connectivity (as they're doing right now). I'd be more than happy to be limited to one third or even a quarter of what I'm paying for until such time as the issue is resolved as long as it's USABLE. Sites which load on dialup in a few minutes take 90+ minutes to load without completing on Mweb right now - if they even open at all.

I've bought bandwidth with Afrihost to tide me over, I won't be canceling with Mweb though as while Seacom is running they are still the best ISP IMHO.

If you couldn't manage redundancy for two strikes already, then surely there will be nothing for the next time. Previous fail was last month...

So which are you guys going with:
[] Telkom uncapped
[] Openweb gold
[] Afrihost business
[] WebAfrica
[] Axxess
[] Stying, love mweb redundancy

Afrihost Business obviously.

At work already, also on MWEB here, sites seem better thus far.. but let's wait til the rest of the country starts hammering it.

Packet loss was zero at 6.30am, but has now crept up to the 5-10% range and usability is suffering. By 7.20am the JINX traffic graph has shot up (by contrast CINX is still getting out of bed). Expect much worse soon, unless a miracle happens... See: http://stats.jinx.net.za/

We shall name the end of this graph Morning Glory :D

MWEB Guy

We are all aware that MWEB is running at reduced efficiency due to SEACOM being down.

What we all would like to know is why MWEB's efficiency is so poor when other ISP's do have backup plans that keep their customers running at nearly full capacity.

So please try to answer this question since it is what everyone here want to know!

Thank you

As has been repeated a million times, Afrihost Business Uncapped. Same price as Mweb Premium.

And when you need support you will be right back to MWEB. Afrihost support - Incompetent-rude-sarcastic.

+1 million.

I'm using an Afrihost Business Uncapped 10meg account for R1 currently - it's incredibly good.

5 days to assess their shaping/throttling of protocols then will decide.

Can you test Astraweb?

Can confirm newsdemon is 100% for NNTP.

However, Spotify is patchy (breaks up) and there appears to be shaping of Netflix / Hulu.

Which is strange, because Youtube 720P / 1080 flies.

May be because their network is also not currently perfect either. Will monitor.
