MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Section 54 of the CPA (Consumer’s rights to demand quality service) makes it very clear that you are entitled to a pro-rated refund:

MWeb has failed to provide a timely notification to users (the notification arrived only this morning - most uneducated users would have heard it by word of mouth).

I would log this as a fault to have it on record with MWeb and then wait and see how the remedy the problem. If Telkom, MTN, Eskom and SBSA are able to provide pro-rated refunds on similar SLA issues, it is certainly possible that MWeb should do the same.

So can we report this matter, or what can the consumer do, as I still think Mweb should have adequate backup systems, if its expensive, well that's the business they are in.

Looks like i am also in Mwebs 10% of service not reinstated, everything is soooo slow

Well, that is good to hear.

However, now that I've made the move, don't think I'll be going back to the more expensive option in a hurry. I've already paid the hundred bucks till the end of the month (Axxess) and the ancillary testers at home are asking me what I did to make the Internet so fast again (the resident you-tuber, Pinterest and face bookers have been moaning on and off for the last few months) - I've just fobbed them off cos my gaming speeds have been fine and I don't YouTube much.

But, I've now experienced better for cheaper - hard to go back....

Same here. Hard to justify that extra $$$ when things like this happen.

Interesting reading the AH, Openweb, et al threads and having the same amount of people moaning about crap service, shaping, slow speeds, etc ....... lol, enjoy

O'really?

AH, WA and CMC works quite well for me in comparison to mweb. I'll see if that has changed since the "90%" was added.

Emails and stuff are working for me, can game on the NA servers on LoL fine. Looks like its better, just a 1meg connection for me though.

I've been out for a few hours (came home to find one PC dead with smoking hot power supply...)

At 4.30pm ping indicates lost packets to the UK in the 2-5% range, which is consistent with the 90% capacity statement.

I'm in CT, so latency on WACS is around 157ms. Joburg users on the SEACOM alternative route are likely to be much slower. Any latency examples for interest?

Hi Mweb Guy

Today i requested to have my account reduced to the cheapest account possible. So that i can still use my email on mweb till i can migrate my contacts to my other email.

I spoke to Geoffrey and he said that i would receive an email confirming my change. I also requested the cancellation forms earlier in the day from another consultant and she said they will be mailed to me.

I have yet to receive any emails from either of these consultants.

Please have a look into this.

EDIT: They also told me that 2gb is the smallest i can get but i see there is a 1gb package. Why did the consultants lie to me?

I'm still leaving Mweb but for what it's worth it seems to be flying again "Touch wood" Now why wasn't this in place on Friday when the Seacom hit the fan?

Thats because Seacom underestimated the amount of global users who would use their alternative streaming partners and that there was a huge amount of congestion because of it

Hi MWEB Guy

I would just like to ask, ever since this Seacom Outage our international pings have dropped 30-40ms in online gaming! Why? I really enjoy this.. Either though international downloads speeds are pretty much dead the ping is unbelievable :D keeping it this way would be awesome ;)

Asked the same question a few days ago. Came to the conclusion that Seacom's route to EU is much further than the others and that's why the pings are higher. Other than that mwebguy had no other idea why they higher on Seacom.

I think eassy is seacoms backup, and they both went down.
Will be testing performance when I get home from work.

Credit where it is due... Thanks, MWEB -- my connection is usable again, which is probably because of the "90% capacity" announcement earlier. Happier camper now.

I don't think any "credit" should go to MWEB in this. They're only up and running again because SEACOM came through with alternative bandwidth.
