:( Bangs head

It's so frustrating! Some of us have real work to do online :(

Where is all this great fail-over redundancy and backup? Quite a poor show MWEB :(

Called into Premier Department - spoke to "Lesego"
Tells me SEACOM is down.
Tells me "You don't have failover capabilities on your account"

Hi All

I can confirm that both Seacom circuits have gone offline again, our engineers are tracing the root cause of the issue and I'll update you as soon as we know how serious the problem is.

Sorry for the inconvenience this may be causing you.

MWEB, you really need to reassess the WACS connection that you have in place for times like this. At most I am able to load a international website's header but I can't see anything beyond that on any other site.
Clearly the backup connection is not implemented correctly, or the connection bandwidth is too small.

I can understand not being able to download when we are on a backup system, but browsing should be possible.

Again? Same problem as the night before last?

Except other ISP's weren't having this problem because I loaded one of their accounts and it worked fine.

Still begs the question as to why international connectivity dies when SEACOM fails. I don't know the details of the WACS failover, but even slow international would be better than no international. Sites just sit there in the browser trying to load and never actually timing out.

Good day,

I always find it baffling myself, since Seacom is not the only international cable.

Latency and Packet Loss [Posted: 13 Sep 12]
We have been advised by our upstream provider of increased latency and packet loss currently being experienced by some users. The cause is currently being investigated.

Taken from Axxess. So not JUST MWeb. I guess SEACOM hates us this week :erm:

Exactly. The fail-over is exactly that -- a fail :(

I understand it can't be an instant switch, but, as with Tuesday evening, even a full hour or so after the fail, international connectivity is still as good as zero.

^ Apart from Tuesday night and today, I don't recall SEACOM failing for many, many months. Any system is prone to failure.
