MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Tried 2 different download managers, one was browser-based and the other a normal application. Both show slow speeds

I wouldn't suggest a browser based download manager, can you perhaps try another download manager? (as a test).

astraweb again is slow speed... tonight down to 180kb tonight.. I provided a trace to astraweb... shaping this heavy so late...

Evening fbman, are you obtaining the same speeds for all downloads from Astraweb?

Hey!!!

Recently, our 1MBit line has been not performing well. My average download speed (from any source even nvidia.com) is always between 60kB/s and 80kB/s. 2 weeks ago it used to be like 100kB/s (minimum).

Latest speedtest.net result: :(

Not good :(

I use news demon, the ssl encryption forces mweb to give me the bandwidth I pay for, since they can't shape ssl.

Your upstream SNR is quite bad, and judging from the CRC errors on the upstream as well, it's indicative that that is the reason why you have bad speeds.

Remember kids, if your upload speed is kak then your download speeds will suffer as well because your line can't maintain a constant "hey I got this piece of data, please send the next"

Hi DarkSpectre

The CRC errors on the router doesn't look good. I would suggest resetting the router only if you know the username and password. Check what the CRC error are after that and let me know.

As for the speed, account and line seems fine. Please monitor and let me know as well.

I had an AH Rage 4Mbit uncapped voucher until the 16th of this month. Since reconnecting to MWEB I've found that streaming isn't working all that well at times, where it used to be 100% at 360p all the time. Also noticed slower website response times and higher local latency. Haven't checked international, but gaming still seems OK.

Anyone else experiencing this? In Cape Town.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of this issue? It has been like this ever since I got my ADSL line activated for the first time back in 2010.

I have 2 POTS filters installed in all the phone outlets except the one that is NOT USED. So do I need one more POTS filter for this unused phone outlet?

Hi PostmanPot,

When experiencing the problem, try change the url from http://www.youtube.com/video to https://www.youtube.com/video and see if the problem persists.

If the problem goes away, check out this thread http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/474982-Mweb-is-shaping-the-hell-out-of-us!

As the problem is most likely shaping related.

Hi

YouTube seems fine without using https. Referring to Twitch.tv (game streaming), should have mentioned that, although MWG knows from PMs. :)

Hi PostmanPot

Are you using the 1mb MWEB account?

Also how many active devices when you are testing the streaming? How are you connecting wirelessly or via cable?

Afternoon, CRC errors normally indicates that there could be line problem between the exchange and you.

When you pick up your telephone, is there any crackling noises on your analogue line? You could put a filter on the unused wall jack, however there is no guarantee that will clear up the errors you are getting.

I will re-create your port now, to see if that helps. The line readings look good at the moment though.

Hey!

Here's another speedtest.net result:

I have changed the ADSL mode from ADSL to ADSL2.

Still my average download speed has not improved :(

I'm downloading the latest nvidia driver (from the official site) at around 60-70kB/s. I downloaded a youtube video (via IDM) at around 60kB/s. Normally, a 100mb data should be downloaded in less than 15 minutes but in my case, it takes about 25-30 minutes for it to be fully downloaded.

EDIT:

Is there anything I can do to resolve these issues?
