Ok, but I need an explanation as to why my 1mb line averages around 80kB/s :( It's been like this since early this morning.

P.S It's been raining for 4 straight days here. It might be the reason why my line speed sucks.

Sure about that? I had to use up my Telkom capped account (which went at full line speed) and had to buy another capped account = just to complete a download that would have taken 4-5 hrs had I left it on Mweb. Both capped accounts ran at 220kbps. Back on my Mweb uncapped, and speeds are still dismal - getting 80kbps atm - at least that is 20 kbps faster than earlier. So , yes... Mweb specific. Had the same thing last weekend and last week too.
 
Hey! Now I'm downloading a 1.2 GB data at around 100kB/s :D The download speed issue seems to have resolved itself........................ or it might be that my line is no longer being shaped for now :D Admit it! :D
 
No, my line is line. Have you checked if your phone line is not dead? See Mweb network status page.
 
Erm... Did MWEB remove their speed throttling tech? I'm downloading.. erm.. slightly faster than I'm supposed to...

Just got in and I see ping is higher than usual again. Have not tested streaming yet, or gamed.

Seems odd that Telkom Internet would have a lower ping to MWEB Cpt than MWEB to MWEB Cpt.
 
Not going above 100kbps with the news server since yesterday morning ....... meh for a 4mb line. First, the gaming seemed like it was getting shaped, now that's been fixed but seemingly at the expense of the news server. What's up?

Thanks for the update :) Dont know why my line quality dropped this much.. Lets hope it gets resolved soon.
 
Ok, I've seen some of the moaning on the forum lately regarding shaping but have pretty much ignored it as the normal and I've had fine experiances with regards to downloads and other BUT this morning is now really irratating. Its a saturday at 9:30am and a simple youtube vid is buffering every 10 secs, not on 1080p or 720p but normal.

Mweb is not the cheapest anymore and the one thing they had going was good and consistent service. Fix your sh** or you will start losing subscribers.

Fyi, 4Mb account, browsing the web and a single news dl in the background at 55kbps.

That one plays fine for me on both my 4mb lines, in fact I haven't had any problems watching youtube at all recently.

I watched all three of these 1hr + vids last night and they never buffered once.

My only gripe though, is that when I use YouTube Downloader to save the vids I really like, that they start at full speed and then slow down to 80-90kB/s for the remainder of the dl. I've tried adding an https prefix to the url as someone suggested, but it makes no appreciable difference.

Overall though, I'm quite happy with the speed :D



Could exchange congestion be the cause? I'm in a small town where the average age is 70 ish and I'm pretty sure I'm the only person with a 4mb line...
 
Mweb Guy could you please help ...my 2 lines seem to only run at half speed the whole time ... it doesnt matter what I do ..reset modems everything it never anymore goes to full speed on both lines at the same time??? could you please have a look for me???

Congested exchange would make all traffic slow. I've had no issues with downloads, just streaming tube this morning.

Please could you PM me your MWEB account info so I can look into this for you.

@Kosmik - I had a look at your account but I can't see any issues. Also tested the line and it seems fine.
I have since reauthed the account for you, please power down the router for a few minutes then test the connection again.
