MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

I just cancelled my AfriHost 4Mbps Uncapped Bundle.
I work from home as a web designer and do a lot of media streaming for my studies.
I just couldn't wait much longer for the new network to improve.
Anyone else here moved over to MWEB from AfriHost?
Difference in Overall Speed? It's not the actual speed that matters, it's just the consistency of reasonably close to line speed that matters. I can't see why I should buffer a 360p video for a while when you have 4Mbps available.

@mwebguy

Im honestly at wits end now. Browsing is ridiculously slow. I cant youtube at all. I cant even use google maps. I cant perform a speedtest.
Downloads? pah. Your techies promised to call back, but this was a week ago.
They promised to send my adsl password reset info to my gmail account, but this never happened.

Hi wikk3d88

I noticed you posted on the facebook wall. I responded to you via facebook.

youtube is still a pain
just normal browsing still slow

been for weeks now...
:/

and what is wrong with mweb lately?
everyone have bad speed

I get decent'ish speeds with my 2mb line, but ONLY after about 10/11 pm. I moved from a 1mbps package @R339 to the 2mbps package for R260 more per month. Whats the point of paying that if I can only fully use my line when I'm asleep? Tonight, a Google search took 10 seconds to load. The experience on Google Maps was atrocious. Sometimes I have to change my Youtube quality to 240p and then it still buffers. I`m happy 65% of the time, but it's mostly very annoying

Figured I'd wait till the new month (November) to see whether my speeds improved - no change so far.

Steaming Youtube videos is a pain, it's like someone is throwing a dice to decide what speed I get, and even then, it only peaks at 70% of my 1MB uncapped package. Go back to September and I could go through Youtube without a hicup, however, this is just unbearable.

I don't see this being a problem with my line because the minute I log onto my Mweb capped account, all is right in the world, and I can take advantage of my 2MB line capacity.

I thought, maybe they are shaping video streaming, along with P2P and News, but that doesn't seem to be the case as HTTP was just as slow. I noted a max speed of 8kB while attempting to get to this thread.

I'm always singing Mweb's praises, but now I have my doubts, and will probably drop the uncapped account and try another provider if it stays this unreliable.

Are you mainly experiencing slow speeds with local or international sites?

I was on maps.google.co.za. Just did a download now from Guru3D and I was getting 8.91kbps. From filehippo I got 19.8kbps. Using IDM I at least got 120kbps. Odd that it's exactly 1mb line speeds? Almost like I`m being throttled

It's pretty consistent on both.

The fluctuation in speed is often. As an example, I'll watch one Youtube video for about 5 minutes, no issues with the stream; I'll then jump to a new video and the speed will hover around 30kB - I can then refresh the video (ctrl + f5), and it starts streaming at around 70kB.

I turn my router off before I leave for work, so it gets a reset every day.

Hi MWEB Guy,

I've been getting some bad latency since the weekend, which doesnt usually bother me except when playing online. The lag has made gaming pretty much a no-go zone. Pings to Google have been 700+. It's been fine up until the weekend. Below is a ping and tracert, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I've ruled out a congested exchange because if I switch to a backup Webafrica account then my pings to Google return to the normal ~250ms.

Really sad to see it has come to this. Been a long time Mweb supporter. Been advocating mweb to all my friends, family and colleagues, saying Mweb was worth the premium as they delivered a quality service. I seem to be left with mud on my face as I am experiencing wide range of problems with mweb and it looks like I am not the only one. I have already phoned in and email and to no avail.

The issues include:
- Sporadic youtube streaming, which I found increasingly I am unable to stream 360p (on a 1meg).
- Downloads going at 50KBps at 11:20pm downloading a very cached file 600+ downloads.
- Pings in game being inconsistent. Not getting the usual mweb standard of 20-30, and normally experience spikes to 200 ping on local servers.

I was going to upgrade my mweb to 2meg, but now I am thinking of taking my business somewhere else. Sad that the other day I had to recommend the IS ISPs to my brother, used to be a no brainier.

Getting bad lag on LoL and just really bad speed in general. This has been going on the last couple of nights.

0.3Mbps on a 10Mbps Mweb uncapped account. Why on earth am I paying so much for so little?
