Hi HammerDown

Please provide me with your MWEB account details and I'll look into it.

Hi Pansyfaust

Hope you are well on this wonderful Thursday morning and that your 2013 has started with a bang :-)

Lets get this terrible speed issue squashed. Yes, it is a bad speed result for your up to 1MB data account.

I have refreshed the account and ask that you have the same done with the ADSL port.

Please also configure the router with the Telkom guest account details and do a speed test from saix.net. If you don't have the test account details, just let me know.

See my signature :-)

Thanks for the warm wishes :) Many to you and yours as well :)

Back to issues....

- this is the speedtest done on a free promotional imaginet account I have.

- this is the mweb account.

I did a saix.net speedtest and the mweb account did fine on that though:

Download Speed: 902 kbps (112.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 342 kbps (42.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 53 ms
1/17/2013 9:28:04 AM

Imaginet account:
Download Speed: 875 kbps (109.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 418 kbps (52.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 56 ms

Regardless of the saix.net result for mweb, i still can only stream youtube vids (and still get timeouts on pages) at the speedtest results that i got for mweb, and even slower. Whereas with imaginet it streams at full speed at all times. I think it points at something directly at mwebs network...

Hi

Is the imaginet account the same as MWEB's because we can't compare the two if it's not the same.

I have double checked your account and can't find any irregularities.

Please do a speed test from: http://www.mweb.co.za/helpcentre/MWEBSpeedTest.aspx

The imaginet account is a promotional 1mb account. Not sure if it is shaped though. I got this with imaginet on mwebspeedtest
Download Speed: 911 kbps (113.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 417 kbps (52.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: -1 ms

Mweb:

Download Speed: 919 kbps (114.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 403 kbps (50.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: -1 ms

Tried youtube again and it seems the issue is not there anymore. If issues start up again i'll contact you again :)

Hi MWEB Guy,

Can you help.

Telkom had a problem in the exchange after a lightning storm last week I had no connection. They swopped my line and since then I have been unable to get more that 0.80mbps on and uncapped 4mb line. My normal speed was 3.7mbps for the last 12 months.

Telkom keep saying there is nothing wrong!!!!!

Thanks

orsum

Another Mweb person sent me this.

ATUC Status
No Defect
There no defects on the line.

ATUC Current Rate
1024 kbps
The current downstream speed established between the DSLAM and customer’s modem, e.g. 4096k, 512k or 384k.

ATUC SNR
12 dB
The signal level compared to the noise level. A value above 6 dB indicates sufficient signal strength. The higher the signal value, the better. Does the customer have an electric fence? This could cause an increased in noise levels resulting in a reduction of this value.

ATUC Attenuation
12 dB
Attenuation refers to resistance. If this value is high, then the signal quality is low, and vice versa. Is the customer far away from the exchange? Long copper lines could be the cause of attenuation. A value above 55 dB is of concern (bad).

ATUC Max Rate
4096 kbps
The max downstream speed governed by the DSLAM at which it communicates to customer's router.

ATUC Min Rate
640 kbps
The min downstream speed governed by the DSLAM at which it communicates to customer's router.

ATUC Alarm State
No Alarm
Is displayed if any faults are found on the DSLAM port.

ATUR Status
No Defect
There no defects on the line.

ATUR Current Rate
512 kbps
The speed at which Router communicates to remote DSLAM, e.g. 384k, 128k.

ATUR SNR
31 dB
The signal level compared to the noise level. A value above 6 dB indicates sufficient signal strength. The higher the signal value, the better. Does the customer have an electric fence? This could cause an increased in noise levels resulting in a reduction of this value.

ATUR Attenuation
4.5 dB
Attenuation refers to resistance. If this value is high, then signal quality is low, and vice versa. Is the customer far away from the exchange? Long copper lines could be the cause of attenuation. A value above 55 dB is of concern (bad).

ATUR Max Rate
512 kbps
The max upstream speed governed by the DSLAM at which it communicates to customer's router.

ATUR Min Rate
256 kbps
The min upstream speed governed by the DSLAM at which it communicates to customer's router.

Hi orsum

I would like to look at why the speed you are getting is so slow. The information you provide shows that the line is syncing at 1024kbps. I checked now and can see it is syncing at 4096kbps.

Please can you do a speed test on our website and provide me the results. Also, power down the router for 5 minutes then do the test.

Hi MWEB Guy

Did a speed test this morning and one a minute ago.
Here are the results.

Test conducted on 17 January 2013 06:11:50

Download Speed: 1217 kbps (152.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 426 kbps (53.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 55 ms

Test conducted on 17 January 2013 21:46:50

Download Speed: 1081 kbps (135.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 415 kbps (51.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 149 ms

Why the latency shift from morning to evening.
My latency is by default approx. 55ms

Regards

Hi HowTo

Did you do this speed test on our website? Are you noticing increased latency while browsing, gaming, etc?

Hi MWEB Guy

Browsing is delayed most of the time. Not into gaming.

MWEB speed test.
Last Result:
Download Speed: 387 kbps (48.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 413 kbps (51.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: -1 ms

Hi HowTo

Do you have a 384kbps ADSL line? Your speed test result is very good for 384kbps. When you have the browsing problem is there anything running in the background?

Please send me your MWEB account details.

Hi MWEB Guy,

Router powered down please see the after results

Last Result:
Download Speed: 1434 kbps (179.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 430 kbps (53.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Hi orsum

Thanks for the results. The speed is slow for an up to 4Mb line and account. Line is defintely syncing at up to 4Mb. I would suggest contacting Telkom, ask them to re-create the port as well. See how your speed is after the port hs been re-created.

Hi MWEB Guy,

Telkom phoned me today and said they have done that.

The Telkom guy said if it has not improved he will be in our area tomorrow and he will come and see me.

What elso do you think I should ask him to do.

You can ask him to see if there are other ports available, maybe he can change your line to another port to see if it will improve the speed.

Hi MWEB Guy

Now I have 2mbps connection but a 1mbps account with MWEB.
I looked at my Task Manager and no other apps that run in the background.
Sorry for the late reply.
