Hi PhreeMe,
If it's not to much trouble, could you do the same test on the MWEB speed test?
Could you also please PM me with a trace route to the MWEB site and an international site.
Do the test with both the Telkom account and the MWEB account.
Thanks.
Mine is suddenly erratic now after being pretty good most of the day...
4Mbps uncapped premium on 10mbps line
International (London)
Last Result:
Download Speed: 2105 kbps (263.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 291 kbps (36.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

I'm in East London... definitely something awry. I've checked my router and pppoe is not pulling anything else.
In support of Mweb Guy, who has always been helpful to me - it's not always your ISP. Mweb still relies on Telkom having properly functioning DSLAM's. Sometimes it's neither - it can be YOUR router, and YOUR software. It's a headache just sorting out your own equipment, let alone expecting Mweb to know what the hell is going on at YOUR end.
I know for a fact my DSLAM is faulty, but do you think I can get Telkom to replace it?
Hi, has this stabilised for you ?
I agree there, mweb guy has some of the best service i've ever seen, he even replies to me faster here on mybb than the actual mweb help desk. However, it doesnt excuse mweb for releasing a k*k product (referring to the throttled accounts here), Its just not mweb guy's fault.
My concern with the throttled accounts is that masses of people are going to see Mweb and Uncapped which has generally been good, but they're going to be sorely disappointed if they haven't done their homework... also, the typical user of the new accounts will be your average home user who love torrents and TV series (or have friends and family who do). I can't see it being much of a win for Mweb. I'm also concerned that the issues we've had this month are related to 'rebalancing' the chi on Mweb's system after the flood of new users on these new packages. I could be wrong.
Agreed. I've been very happy with Mweb for the +- 8 months I've been using them.
I moved onto the 4mb throttled (from 2mb premium) on the assumption that my 60 odd gb per month would not come near to being in the upper percentile. However, after two days and 2.5gb downloaded, I have been throttled.
Now, when Mweb 4mb/s premium is R899, and everyone of Afrihost, Webafrica, Telkom ad Openweb are cheaper than that, then it makes absolutely no sense to keep with Mweb.

Hi Arzy
Our team tested and could replicate the problem.
Since then, everything has been working fine. Please can you test from your side and let me know.
Silll having the same issue, turned my router off completely for about 20-30 minutes and tried again today. I still get an error message in D3 as soon as I try and login. Switch to Axxess without changing anything else and it connects without a hitch.
Still stuck with the same problem, any chance you could tell me what the team did to fix the problem for themselves?
Its getting rather frustrating having to pay some else to do something my uncapped line line should be doing.
Hey Mwebguy - I've been out all day, but RDP is broken again. There is definitely something about my account that's gone awry. It worked all weekend but doesn't work now again. Does that mean that I'm being throttled?
Hi WoDotNant?
You are not on the throttled package, so you can't be throttled. Is this mainly happening during the day?
Hi MWEB Guy,
I have exactly the same problem running a 4MB Uncapped "un-throttled" connection.
For the last two weeks or so my connection speeds drop significantly during the day and most of the weekend.
Downloads run at between 1kb/s and 5kb/s and I cannot even connect to the Speedtest.net page to get the stats.
Google = Fail, Mweb home page = fail, streaming audio = no chance either.
Everything was fine for a few hours yesterday afternoon.
If I reset my router, speeds burst to about 40 - 50 kb/s for about 10 seconds before everything stops again.
The experience is like being throttled and the timing coincides with the introduction of the new packages.
Can you make 100% sure that the throttling policies applicable to the new accounts are not being applied to existing users?
Cheers,
