MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Hi FlatspinZA

I'm sorry to read of your experience, which IP's did you test?
Could you perhaps test with the MWEB site and bbc.co.uk with both ISP accounts so I can compare.
Then pm me the results so I can look into it for you.

Geez, poor oke - you have a horrible job.

It seems to have come right again. I tried a "tracert" to mweb.co.za and got a whole bunch of *'s = timeouts. The problem is that I got Telkom to do a port reset and it worked fine for a few hours, then it started again, which is when I gave up.

Today, however, switching to WA resolved my issues, but then it also started going wobbly a few hours later.

I have long suspected that I am on a faulty DSLAM. If we changed our line-rental to Mweb, would you guys be able to confirm this because I am getting diddly-squat from Telkom's side?

I got throttled without even using my account for 9 days...
Imaginet let the 4 day trial run a bit longer...

Sorry mweb but it's time for me to go.
I used to pay premium for news server etc....now that is not even working so had to pay for astraweb...

with IS account my downloads run fulls speed all day.

thanks for the past 3 years...

Ok for the past 3 days I have sat with very high latency in GW2. My tracerts have all looked like the one I posted 3 days ago with no response from MWEB guy. Although it appears to be a congested exchange on the 2nd hop, it was never like that and I had immaculate performance up until that date. Currently pings vary from 900ms to 1200ms making the game impossible to play.

You should look into 100% confirming if that is the case and then take it up with Telscum. Mweb can't fix exchanges, although if they were able, I'm sure they would do a better job than the durr brigade.

Is anyone else having speed issues on Mweb atm? I had to switch to FNB just to open this page.

Connection is dropping every few seconds. Can't figure out if it's mweb or me.

Another night of absolutely pathetic youtube performance. It's literally dead atm, videos wont even buffer...

YouTube working smooth as this side, wonder if it's region based? I've had issues with YT before when other parts of the country had none.

I checked with a friend of mine who is on the same account and he's youtube is also not working, we are both in Cape Town.

If you move your line rental to MWEB we will certainly be able to deal with Telkom on your behalf.

I have myself been complaining about youtube performance since January and every time they tell me nothing is wrong. Now this Skype issue as well. The problem has been for more than a week now and still no cause or resolution has been found!

I'm in IT support myself and can tell you if a hand full of people have the same problem PERHPAPS it can be a localized issue, but if so many people complain as I've seen here and on Facebook, then there must be a problem on the ISP's side! Come on MWEB, you are dropping the ball big time!!! I joined MWEB from Word-of-mouth, but many people are leaving MWEB and I cannot in good conscience suggest MWEB as the best ISP anymore. How many people feel the same why as I do? Even if I have the same issues with another ISP at least I'll be paying less.

+1

Mweb Guy any ETA on this skype problem - it's unbelievably frustrating.

+ 1000

What the **** is going on? I've already switched one of my MWEB accounts over to OpenWeb. Am going to do the same with the other two if this doesn't get resolved ASAP.

Agreed, and Mweb seem to be avoiding the issues, even when you phone the call center you are met with a blank informative response.

Durban is behaving well for me this morning.... Speedtest is good... PingTest is not working at all to Cape Town and not the best results to Umhlanga, usually I get an A on PingTest (EDIT... closed Utorrent ;) tested again)? Had a few torrents running this morning. No issues there. My Youtube is not buffering at all on 360p, even my 720p is smooth (first time in a long time).

Umhlanga PingTest

EDIT: Got Cape PingTest to Work...

This is on the Original 4mb Uncapped account.

Hi Guys

Thanks so much for all the info provided thus far, I know it must be rather frustrating having all these problems with Skype and now with Youtube. Believe me it's not fun for me also seeing how many of you are having trouble with it. Our engineers are still trying to isolate what the cause is and we'll let you know as soon as we confirm what/where the problem is.

Could I ask that if you still experiencing issues with Skype that you provided me with the info I previously requested.
To those who have already done so, thank you, the info has been passed to the engineers:

1) Does it happen all day and is it also a problem at night?
2) What Operating system does the user have and what is the skype version. Please check help -> about.
3) Are there any other pc’s on the network with skype, and do they also give problems?
4) What is the exact problem:
4.1) Disconnects after a while
4.2) Skype doesn’t even log in
4.3) Logs in and calls connect, just bad quality
4.4) The video part is bad, or the voice part is bad, or both?
5) Type of account (eg: 1mbps, 2mbps, 4mbps, etc)
6) Region

If you having trouble with youtube, please supply me with the following info I will make sure the engineers get it.

1) when did the problem start
2) nature of the problem (slow, just buffers, freezes, etc)
3) youtube stream speed
4) does it happen on another PC/device when tested.
5) account type
6) Region
7) are you able to stream from another similar site and what is the experience like (dailymotion, metacafe, vimeo, veoh, etc)

*Edit* Also include the time of day these problems occur.

Thanks you in advanced. :)

Has anyone in the Rondebosch area been experiencing poor performance recently?

In the past we would ping 30-50ms to our servers in Internet Solutions JHB all day with no packet loss but over the last couple of weeks we have been experiencing severe lag "spikes" of up to 500ms as well as packet loss.

I also have a sporadic issue whereby I am unable to Remote Desktop into servers hosted at various sites across the country. Rebooting our router resolves this, however, every time we do this our Cisco phones go down.

MWeb guy sent you a pm at 09h15, can you check for me please.

Thanks
