Putting the Technicolor router in bridged mode only would turn it into a modem and void the whole FON concept. Did you look for something called half-bridge mode?
What I was thinking.. did not know about the half bridged mode though...

Hi Guys
You will not be put the router in bridge mode.
Hi Mweb Guy. I have done extensive testing of the mail problem I PM'ed you about yesterday, and the cause has been isolated
The problem is on Mweb 4mbps uncapped home premium accounts (and maybe other speed accounts that are shaped as well). We are running our 4Mbps account on a 10Mbps line, if that makes any difference.
At first I thought the problem was on your mail servers, but now I am convinced that something in your ADSL account shaping policies are to blame for this one, as I've now confirmed that we can download large attachments normally from imap.mweb.net, if we connect from another ISP. This problem has been in effect since yesterday morning.
The issue only applies to IMAP traffic, not POP3. IMAP is only allowed a 5 second burst of traffic before it literally cuts out completely. Even to Mweb's own IMAP/POP3 server, imap.mweb.net. Your mail tech guys gave me a call, but they insist that they can't help me with IMAP because only POP3 is supported (why would port 143 be open and imap.mweb.net resolving to that IP then?)
I can understand the shaping of throughput... but that it completely cuts traffic after a few seconds to YOUR OWN mail servers, is clearly abnormal behaviour and you guys might just want to look into this one (rather than trying to prove me wrong or blame my network for it) before someone who isn't remotely as tech-savvy, but who happens to be using both your ADSL and IMAP services, will also have to learn the hard way and may not be as patient as I've been. Clearly your shaping team has "Prioritized mail" for POP3 but completely forgot about IMAP on port 143.
Please test this yourselves! A 4Mbps premium uncapped shaped mweb account (ideally on a 10mbps line like ours). Set Outlook up to connect to any Mweb E-mail account on IMAP protocol, and send a large attachment (5-25MB) to that e-mail account. You will see that it will not transfer the whole message before completely timing out. You can even extend the timeout period in outlook to 10 Minutes, the same thing will happen because what's actually happening is that after 5 seconds of transfer, the shaper kicks in and literally reduces transfer speed to 0 until Outlook times out
Thanks for your feedback. You have completely ignored the issue though? Please ask your shaping team to ensure that IMAP and POP3 get the same priority, and then come back to me with their feedback? They seem to have neglected IMAP, which should be just as important surely. You are correct that the technician told me it should be pop3. I'm quite sure you guys should be supporting IMAP too, not so? I would think that if I can't even use Mweb's IMAP server due to shaping on my Mweb ADSL account, then I probably won't be able to use any other IMAP server either. Is this normal to you?Hi fragtion
I checked the feedback from the technical specialist who called you and he setup you mail with you on pop3 and mails came in normal before a progress bar even appeared. He also advised it should be as pop3
Even to Mweb's own IMAP/POP3 server, imap.mweb.net. Your mail tech guys gave me a call, but they insist that they can't help me with IMAP because only POP3 is supported
Now select the server type -- this can be either POP or IMAP (IMAP is preferable if you want to leave mail on server for later retrieval by your computer's regular e-mail software), and enter your account information.
The next step is to fill in your Incoming Mail Server details:
Host Name -- either imap.mweb.co.za or pop3.mweb.co.za (depending on whether you selected IMAP or POP as your mail server type)
No Bridge mode? May as well stop my delivery in it's tracks then, I won't be using it.
Hi Mephisto_Helix
There is no bridge mode for the FON router.
Should I go ahead and cancel the order?
MWEB,
Can you create a home network which has your own unique name and password? or a third network?
Can you connect your own WiFi AP to this router to create another Wifi network?
Thanks
