MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

And mweb has R368 million from the sale of their business division but they still want to fleece us, thieving bastards. BUY MORE CAPACITY AND IPC!!
 
Freshly captured data just for you! Interestingly enough the tracert and ping seems quite stable/acceptable. But loading pages and downloading seems to be unstable and is slow.

During the problem now:

Steam downloads averaging 150KB (below youtube graph is similar in nature with the spikes)

Im beginning to actually wonder if perhaps my exchange is congested. Because even my Telkom account has been acting up the past 2 days. Sometimes it works fine while my Mweb account does not. But tonight the telkom account is having the same issues as the Mweb account. So I won't bother with showing Telkom results this time round. To be honest I think Im just going to have to try call Hellkom this time round.

Feels like my account is acting up as well. Torrents are going dead every few minutes (guess I can expect that during some time of the day), but my direct download which I know I can usually get between 320kb/s and 420kb/s is going at 100-120kb/s.
As far as I can tell my youtube streaming is also getting these very annoying lag spikes on 720p where the buffering just stops for a couple of seconds for no apparent reason.

I don't see how this is exchange related. On weekends I get full speed but on weekdays the only time I get full speed is at midnight. Sounds like they just don't have the capacity and they wont even admit it, damn cowards !

Say what?? I just had a long chat to a "specialist" and he spun me the same story. Your exchange is congested. My situation is exact same as yours, on weekends and after midnight no issues. He maintained it was congestion. Then , of course, when I asked "Well, why does another ISP perform when you dont, it's the same exchange?"

Stumped. Tired of all this BS and excuses. They stuffed up and wont admit it. Mweb = Openmweb

Wow, i keep trying to ask them if my exchange is congested and all i get is mwebguy on twitter telling me if i want faster speeds i must upgrade to a faster connection....because he clearly understands that if it's a telkom exchange issue it does not matter if i am on a faster line, the dam exchange is congested.
 
Hi jammio, if the Afrihost prepaid package you mentioned is capped, a more flexible shaping policy may be the reason for better performance as opposed to our uncapped package. Please PM me your MWEB account details so that I can look into this for you.

Please understand that this has nothing to do with shaping, which has been a policy of yours since day 1. I understand what shaping is, I'm saying that even page loading is a problem during the day. I'm in Pinetown and have been having the same problems. I get conflicting results which on the on hand point to exchange congestion, and on the other hand point to mweb shaping: Firstly I used 2 different capped Afrihost accounts I have and got poor streaming on youtube, then I tried one from crystalweb which was also poor. This all lead me to believe it was an exchange problem, but now I am on the fence about whether it is exchange congestion.

This is a pingplotter showing what happens on my connection when streaming Youtube with Mweb at 1:30 in the afternoon. The plotter is a 1 hour or so representation, with wifi turned off and only the PC streaming connecting to the internet-to me this does not look like a proper internet connection. That, and the streaming at 240P on a 1Mbps connection was only 10-30KB/s MAX. Look at that jitter and red lining packet loss

In contrast I was able to briefly use an IS backbone uncapped account from someone I know, I was able to get 200KB/s and nearly 720P streaming on youtube--look at the graph and tell me if you spot the differences. I.e, red lines are packet loss, something a proper working line should not have. Bare in mind this Youtube stream was done at night, so I realise they are not comparable, but I am going to do a test this afternoon to see how it performs.

To anyone having issues like Google responding 1 minute later and sites timing out, I changed my dns to the Google Servers instead of using Mweb's and it seems to have solved the issue, since the problem is intermittent, I can't be sure yet but something to try.

For the last 3 weeks it sometimes takes up to a minute for certain websites to respond on Mweb.
 
Still haven't been contacted yet by the way MWEB Guy.

Edit: Was finally contacted. issue has been escalated apparently.

Scrolled back 10 pages and saw nothing about DNS.

I am scanning with Namebench for other DNS servers but Google is 100x better than Mweb right now.
