MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

MWEB: If you're not shaped, you're throttled.

Surely this new AUP arrangement means MWEB has it both ways? They call it uncapped, but they effectively cap it by (heavy?) throttling.

They shape torrents anyway, so bascially they get it all their way, all of the time. If they are throttling when we hit a cap, why not remove the shaping on torrents?

My Humble Indie Bundle games are torrenting down at 7kbps right now. It's easier just to load their network and download the game via HTTP.

We, as the consumers, are the ones who are left having to manage a shaped, uncapped account as if it were a capped account, with a secret, unknown cap :(

If you're officially still unthrottled, your torrents are shaped anyway. When you somehow manage to download "too much", your entire account is throttled. So we always get the raw deal, the thin end of the wedge.

Can MWEB explain what I get for my Extra "Premiuim" payment vs the normal then?? Whats the point of paying for a Premium account if it is treated the same as the standard account?

Lower contention ratio I would imagine.

Nope - only difference - Gaming is prioritized on the MWEB network

Other than that it would be great if they could put the categories in the same order on each page :P

Why would you torrent the humble bundle games?

What do you mean? Just download them over HTTP? I'm trying to be nice and not load the network with full linespeed downloads. Also, because some are large, I just leave to torrent away with a speed limit on for a while, so that I can still use my line. What do you suggest?

I just do http downloads hence my question.
I've never considered torrenting the titles.

I want a tabulated comparison from MWEB to illustrate why its worth my while to remain paying for the premium service vs normal... I mean come on, I'm a customer and I am confused to the differences now.... please enlighten me.

It's not going to happen.

The only difference if any would be the shaped rules are different. Butut again that is simply a guess. The 1mbps line does not even have standard, it only comes in a premium version.

Wow. So when you get throttled on 2mb account, your speed gets thrown to less than a 384kb account...
I had better speeds on a 384kbs account 3 years ago than I do with this throttled account.

Yes it is meant to be felt... The irony is if you check your ping you will find it has gone up, well it did in my case :)

You have collected alot of data by now. Any chance you have cracked the Mweb code yet and can shed light on when they throttle the various accounts?

So I tabled the two packages myself. Only difference is the "Gaming Priority" on the Premium. Fudzy was correct... Who here is on a 4mb normal uncapped and uses it for gaming? What are your experiences?

I'd be interested to know how many users are using Mweb now seeing as lots and lots of users have cancelled and have made other users send in cancellation forms. The network demand surely has reduced on there side due to more and more users leaving and going to other ISP'S and thus more capacity available for users that are still with Mweb, its a win win situation ;) :p Thanks Mweb, i'm sure you trying to improve the network to get more and more users to trust you again due to your throttling practices you implement to control the network. I believe it will take time but i trust you working very hard to gain previous clients trust back or if its too late, hopefully bring more and more clients onto your network. :)
