MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

I retract my comment though as I see I do post more, but I'm more interested in keeping things civil and provide constructive data on the throttling saga rather than your rantings which carry on ad nauseam. Please point out where I have been defending Mweb?

Wanted to catch up :) Mweb have fundamentally changed the way they do business. I along with the masses of Mweb users believed in that so-called 3% of abusers. I believed until I discovered I was one. I am sitting at 74gb usage for the 30 day threshold period. I cannot even buy BF4 and download it without going over the threshold. So I will wait. And, you are wrong I am still an Mweb customer until November 30. I suggest you read the rubbish they are posting on their facebook site. It is the same garbage they have been saying since they launched the "War on the Web" campaign.
It is only a handful of people abusing the system... You can see my 12-month figure on another Mweb bashing thread. Do i fit the profile of the downloader who has 60TB of movies etc. The simple answer is no. Is my usage that of a typical moderate user? The simple answer is yes! They refused to allow me to leave Mweb without me honouring the 30 day clause. They have lied repeatedly about key aspects of throttling and how it works. When caught out in the lie they remain silent or suddenly correct themselves.
Do I hate Mweb, simple answer is no! Could I in good conscience recommend them to anyone else, the answer is no!
So why do I post here, because word of mouth is the best advertising there is and if I can make just one person think twice about Mweb, well that will be worth the 30 day cancellation period I have been forced to live with.
I fully support your right to support Mweb, they have been good to you and obviously, you have never joined the 3% club.
I can promise you come November 30, midnight I will stop all posts in any Mweb thread because it will no longer be my problem.

only no3

So I take it that I should not use Mweb if I'm looking for uncapped?

If you can wait a few weeks, go with Afrihost. Quick and easy activation, good connection, no hidden fees, and there's a cancel button in the web interface, so no need to sit on the phone for a few hours trying to cancel if you're unhappy.

WTF, way lower than I thought :( I guess it can be explained away by the fact that I have been busy with my exams. Thanks Fudzy for pointing it out to me :) My work here is not over. Far from it.

The big question here is ... how do other ISPs manage without throttling their uncapped users? MWEB is (was?) a major player in the ISP market in SA. They are now actively enforcing their AUP and throttling "heavy" users, whereas other ISPs are not AFAIK.

How are these other ISPs able to continue to provide gigabytes or data to their users when MWEB cannot?

They probably run at lower margins, no investors to impress.

But are investors impressed by all the negativity surrounding throttling? Or are you saying they don't mind that, if it results in the 0.5%-3% of heavy users moving somewhere else or effectively downloading less.

Since when did Naspers care overly much about negativity :P

What negativity? MWeb is a subsidiary of Naspers so until the year end financial figures you won't see the financial impact of MWeb's throttling decisions. It might even be in there favour if the company was running at a loss.

@MWEB Guy

Thank you - my throttled status has been lifted.

Am I right in saying that you pay in advance with Mweb?

In October I was on 4mbps premium @ R899 per month. Starting from 1 November I am on the 2mbps Standard. Should my payment at the end of October be for November's service i.e. R449? I paid R899.

Hi an3s

I sent you a PM, please have a look and respond. Thanks

Dont know what MWEB did over the past weekend, but my line speed was very very fast. Was a nice change, and nogal a torrent as well.
