MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Strange then that I was throttled to death once I reached a combined total of 197.762GB (Rec=132.871, sent=64.891GB0 in August 2013).

And again in Sept 2013 after only a combined total of 117.729GB (Rec=77.014GB and sent=40.715GB)?

Evidently this "threshold" is but a mere 70GB which was only officially announced by MWebGuy yesterday.

Also note, that we do not include uploads in our thresholds ;)

Hey Mweb Guy, is the uploads things true because if so, then maybe I should upgrade my account.

So I just wanna check if I understand this correctly.

The monthly limit for a 2MB Standard account is 70GB correct, and this is excluding uploads? So If I used say 100GB (aka 30GB up and 69.9GB down) ..... throttling won't take place?

Sho, that is roughly my usage per month.

I sign up and I reach that threshold, would I then be throttled? or shaped?

Do not listen to a word Mweb guy tells you.
250gb on a 10mb account is utter garbage.
10mb account ffs.
this is not a 2mb account
I get 250gb + on a 2mb account

I had a 2mb 'premium' account, instant throttling once I hit 200gb in 30day window.

Afternoon, your understanding is correct Darkwater.

The uploads are not taken into consideration.

Afternoon, this package does work for some people.

We also offer the premium shaped 10MB package with a threshold of approximately 950GB

2MB PREMIUM uncapped. Just got throttled (and that's a very gentle word, it's not throttled, its UNUSABLE, even for basic browsing).

I would hardly classify myself as an 'abuser':

Morning Afflicted

Our speed limiting is based on a 30 day rolling window period, not month to month. On the Premium 2Mb package, the threshold is in the region of 200GB for the 30 days. If you reach this figure, speed limiting will kick in until you are within the acceptable parameters. The limiting will be lifted after that.

MWEB guy, my connection is unusable right now. I get 4 to 6s pings to any ip and a lot of packetloss. The only way I can resolve anything is by using Google public DNS. The MWEB one auto assigned 197.80.80.80 is barely reachable.

I can't paste a trace route as I'm on my phone. But the first hop when trace touting this ip is 41.133.110.1 and has a latency of 3812ms. Every subsequent hop forme is about the same.

Could you please look into this for me? Have pm'd my details in the past.

Afternoon zamrg

I checked the account, it is not throttled.

From what you are saying, if the results from the traceroute are that high, it is a possible congested exchange issue. In order for me to log this with Telkom, I do require the results from the traceroute as I need to put that information on the fault.

Seriously you used 200gb on an uncapped account. Shame on you! As luck would have it there is a solution choose another ISP. I am with Telkom Internet and I cannot tell you the joy I feel having passed that 200gb limit about three days ago. Even the torrents fly during the day not so much but at night from say 6pm until the morning it is full speed. Yes you heard me full speed. Less than an hour to download two movies 800m plus movies. I downloaded both as I was not sure which the kids wanted to watch. The joys of being with another ISP means not having to look at the size of a download to see if it is going to push you into Mweb land. But you are a Premium customer think of all those standard customers that are throttled at 60gb ha ha ha.
Do yourself a favour cancel and move on with your life, seriously you will not look back with regret. ;)

Damnit this is sad. I'm going to apply for ADSL now for the first time - and I always thought that I'd go with MWEB when I get ADSL - they pioneered with uncapped / free peering / etc.

But with the current comments its seems that against all odds (If you look at the situation a year ago for example) - that Telkom is in fact giving good service when it comes to uncapped.

Still unsure whether to go Mweb / Telkom / Afrihost...

Hi jxharding

If you have an ADSL line installed then you can let me know and I can arrange a 7 day trial account for you to see if it meets your requirements
