I will follow up for you

MickeyD has challenged me to ask about torrent speeds on uncapped Mweb. What performance do you typically get during the day, and weekends? Specifically 2Meg lines.

Hi AntiGanda

Seeing that these speeds have never been guaranteed, I can't say during this time & that time it is going to be better.

Also taking into account torrents receive the lowest priority on our Network.

Well gentlemen.

I give up. After my posts being ignored completely by Mweb (about 3 or 4 pages bac I think) and still poor speeds. I have had enough. Steam download is crawling during the day until very very late in the night (after about 1 am) Then magically I get full speed on things till morning. Torrents even during the late night are horrid these days. Aka, they are slow or just dont download.. Paying about R550 is not worth this "premium service anymore"

Sorry Mweb. I really hate to do this. But I will be going elsewhere once I find a new suitable ISP. However I would like to say thank you for the service you provided me. It was not always bad. And most of the time, I can say I was a happy customer. But I really cannot handle these issues anymore. So yeah.. Take care.

p2p only becomes unshaped in the late evening these days. Not sure about Steam though.

Good luck...

I forgot to mention, Im having a similar issue to this in some ways. Certain pages or sites will just stay stuck at loading endlessly. But VERY late at night, the pages will then load if I try (slowly)

One example is when I visit Ebay. Homepage/search etc works fine. But the moment I try click to go to My Ebay Summary... It stays at loading the page forever until I cancel it. Telkom account? Works! Afrihost Account? Works! Mweb? 12 am? Maybe it'll work.

Im actually getting tired of this. Torrents are beyond the low priority until around 12am now.. Peers are non existent. I can find maybe 1 peer IF Im lucky. Otherwise it's stuck at looking for peers/connecting to peers. And if Im even more lucky, I'll get a couple KB's at most download wise. And even after 12 am it's not always so great >_> Also I know the torrent is fine. Because if I randomize the port, for a couple of seconds the torrent(s) will load tons of peers quickly and then just as quick as they come, they vanish before my eyes.

Can't connect to IRC servers/get disconnected every few minutes regardless of the time of the day. Tried multiple ports including SSL.

I think Im going to have to switch ISP's if this keeps up. I mean Im paying for the Premium Uncapped 4Mbit package.. Most of my http(s) downloads aren't even flying like they used to including Steam downloads. Telkom works fine. Afrihost Works fine. Mweb doesn't.

Im sick of this.

Hi Grimster101

If you referring to the above post then my apologies as I do not intentionally chose to ignore relevant posts.

As you can see the history of our page, I try my best to give a reply to 95% of posts.

Torrents are unfortunately not supported by us due the nature of the content. If you are trying to download torrents and use other service at the same time it is going to make every other service unresponsive.

Mweb experiencing any issues ?

Hi Mweb guy.

Just a quick question, as you are now strongly suggesting (through the email communication sent out) that for those of us who would like to stay with Mweb and make use of Usenet should utilise the Giganews Diamond offering. As this service include VyprVpn does this indicate you are now allowing us to encrypt all traffic sent over your network with this service?

Kill the news server and then phone me trying to get me to migrate my line ....... uhm, pass

+1. Mweb made uncapped a reality in SA in 2010. That was awesome, and I will be eternally grateful to them for breaking that ice, and keep a special place for them if they decide to do something great for the public like that again. But, that's unfortunately where my gratitude and respect for them terminates for now. The fact is that since the launch of their uncapped service, little has improved in terms of pricing or service value - in fact I found that speeds and shaping had generally deteriorated for me on their 4mbps premium uncapped offering, where I could often push up to 6Mbps average speed on those accounts before, but more recently rarely even hit true 4Mbps at all. For those of you who haven't bothered to look at the alternatives yet, just know that there are other ISPs out there who are offering much greater value for the same amount of money right now (eg, I'm on VOX 10Mbps uncapped for R400/mo). I can tell you Mweb killed their news server purely for profit incentive - less juice for the consumer and more for the shareholders. This is obvious because of their recent press releases where they clearly state that they have no immediate intent of changing their ADSL pricing or value offerings, despite competitor innovation going on all around them. Why? Because too many mom and pop are already locked into contracts with them and don't know any better. So I very much doubt the number of NNTP users was as low, as they claim - and even if it was, so what? If it was sustainable before, why kill it now? Why should we be content with LESS value for money than we had when we signed up? Well I'm not. It sure looks like Mweb are going to need some pressuring to innovate again - hopefully this IS acquisition will do some good; but until then they better not try phone me again asking if I want to upgrade my line unless they want to hear how dated I think their service has become. Unfortunately our office line is still with Mweb - fortunately I'm the IT guy and filling in the necessary forms to have that changed soonest. Genuinely looking forward to actually utilizing our line speed. Hopefully more of you do the same, so that we can all benefit from greater value and less chancing/ripoffs in the long run. Sorry Mweb - bad publicity was never an intent of mine, but there's much room for improvement in your offerings, and you know it. We aren't all sheep

Hi Lazy.Me

We never said that we do not allow it.

The concept that excessive usage over vpn tunnels as a direct attempt to bypass shaping would be considered abusive was relevant before, but our shaping technologies are a lot more sophisticated now and with the introduction of throttling this type of abuse policing has become much less relevant.

This currently the speed of my 4meg line. I currently don't have access to a PC to run a tracert. Can you please reset the line on your side Mweb Guy?

So its 1st of the month, amazingly all the issues with downloads, p2p etc... have disappeared, if anyone notices they will see that their p2p are working and not being throttled to death..... so my hypothesis is, mweb approaches their own network capacity limits by somewhere in the middle of the month or towards the end, then they start tightening there belts and throttling all p2p etc... to death or any other downloads, streaming, gaming etc..... i may be wrong but its what i suspect.
