MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

That refers to free routers etc. You'd just be looking to upgrade.

Or pay R40 more per month for 40GB extra?

Nope. It won't work as I'm line + data.

For 40 extra gigs it would cost me at least R110 extra. Check your attachment.

Anyways, MWEB is a flop. Looking at Afrihost's or Axxess' 50 + 50 gig promotion for data. Will keep the line with MWEB or migrate to said ISP/s.

So, in essence, for the same price I'm paying now, R339, I'll get 100 gigs of data. Beats paying R110 extra for less benefits.

He meant only upgrade the data to 4 mbps and leave line as standard 2mbps under Standard ADSL. It is the second column "Data only" R199 for 2 mbps to R239 for 4 mbps. Line price remains at R140.

People seem to be battling with their maths here.

Your current R339 includes the 2Mbps ADSL line rental.

With Afrihost you'll get 100GB of data (with 50GB being promotional until June 2015) for R199. Your ADSL line rental is R165 for a total of R364. Fairly certain you will not get the subsidised line price if your data is not with MWEB.

With the latter you are paying more, getting a little more data but a hard cap.

I have no problems with someone disliking am ISP but let's keep the facts straight.

Ah, I see.

Anyways, it still works out more expensive than the capped bundles from Afrihost/Axxess.

Anyone know how to change the wifi channel number on the MWEB FON router?

You'd have to log onto the routers setup page to do so (i.e. browse to 192.168.1.1, then use admin as the username and password). Once logged in, look for 'Home Network' and it should be self-explanatory for there on out.

Don't know if MWEB was in any way involved, but somehow I am able to stream 720p on my 2meg line (4meg acc) seemlessly again.
Nice.

Morning ANthro, thanks for the feedback :)

Glad everything is running seemlessly again :D

Have a blessed 2015!!

@Mwebguy

Does Mweb offer a dyndns option for its adsl in a similar way to that of telkomsa?

Morning, we don't offer dyndns or static IP's on our home accounts.

I'm sure you can sign up and use dyndns on our network though ;)

Can any of the experts please give me advice. I am with Mweb 1 Mbps Premium (R199) and ensure that I just stay under my allowable 100 gb's before throttling. I have been with them for two years. My line is 2 mbps. I was thinking of upgrading the data only to the 4 mbps Standard (R239) and leave the line at 2 Mbps as is. Under this package my limit will be 110 Gb's and I will be able to use my full line speed of 2 mbps. When trying to do this I see that it is "not available to existing customers". Only alternative is move to Afrihost where I used to be and hope that their service has improved and will not deteriorate with too many joining them. A good package they advertise is the 50 gb + 50gb for R199.
How difficult is it to move your line from Mweb back to Telkom or Afrihost? When is the best time time of the month to move if you are not on contract?
Thank you.

You can do that. I did.
You cannot do this. If MWEB manages your line you cannot upgrade only data but must also upgrade the line. Thus if I want to upgrade from my 1 Mbps uncapped Premium package with a 2 Mbps line to 4 Mbps standard uncapped data I must also upgrade my line to 4 Mbps. Just spoken to the sales rep. Best to take your line away back to Telkom and pay the R25 more for line rental and then if I still want to be with Mweb I do it then but not as long as they have my line.

Thanks. My Wifi network grinds to a halt every 10-15 minutes and I have to re login to one of my Wifi Networks to get things going again. Hopefully this helps.

Sure thing Space_Chief, please do keep me informed ;)

Dear MWEB Guy,

Please help.
I recently upgraded my account to a 10Mbit Uncapped, but have been experiencing significant connection issues. The DSL keeps disconnecting giving 2 messages:

"Connection could not be established: Concentrator not reachable"

"Your DSL connection is down. Verify that your TG589vn v3 is correctly connected to your phone line. If the problem persists, check your documentation."

The DSL usually re-connects within a minute and then manually reconnecting the internet connection gets everything up and running quickly again. But it usually takes 1-20min (usually while streaming video) and then it does it again. And sometimes it gets worse. At the moment it's only able to keep the connection for 15-20s before disconnecting again.

The problem occurs 100% of the time when streaming video from my google play account. Sometimes within a few seconds from the stream starting. But sometimes working for up to 20min, I don't think it's ever worked for longer without disconnecting.

I'm sending you a PM with my details and the event log from the router.
Hope you can help me solve this very irritating issue.

Thank you!

I think give Telkom a call and ask them to drop you down to 8Meg.
