MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

250 - 315KB/s with Steam downloads.

1080p YouTube no issues.

150 - 200KB/s for the Think Broadband test.

Speed tests are generally not accurate or indicative of true experience.

Alright thanks for the feedback. Hopefully my speeds will return to normal. For now, guess I just gotta stick with the capped accounts :p

Hi Grimster101

How has the connection been thus far?

Hi there. It's better at the moment. getting full speeds on Steam and Youtube again as well as other places thankfully. But sadly I seem to be having an actual problem with my line since yesterday. So far, seems to only occur in the evening. (I can already say it's not related to you guys) For some reason my line keeps dropping constantly in the evenings every 10-20 minutes. Its so annoying. During the day it's fine and then during the evening it just keeps going on and off.

Going to have to phone Helkom and hopefully they'll actually be helpful for once... (wishful thinking)

I running windows 10 in a virtual box

Can anyone update windows 10 technical preview to version 10130.. using mweb. I started my update this morning around 9am, Restarting windows 10 does not help.

I know MS is starting to use p2p protocols to distribute updates.. so maybe mweb shapes those to nothing too ???

Is it just me or are things crawling tonight?

Facebook, Youtube, Steam, Guild Wars 2, GTA Online and Gmail are sluggish and at times not opening at all.

P2P traffic, regardless of content, receives the lowest priority on our network, so performance cannot be guaranteed.

For the past few weeks my Google searches have been crawling. Like 10-15 seconds for the results to load, whether I search via Google or Chrome's address bar. Internet is fine in every other way. It's bizarre. Perhaps a problem with Mweb's DNS?

Have you tried another browser when it happens?

Hi

firstly all i want to say is so far all i have experianced with mweb is high latency and crap download speeds which was pretty much the reason i left afrihost in fact you guys are worse than they are at least with afrihost i can still play online games without high latency please fix this its currently 3:30am and my latency in wow is over 1000ms

I also get this with Chrome and google services, especially with Gmail. When I use Firefox it is super fast. But the Chrome and Google servicess slow thing only happens on the Mweb connection, weird.

EDIT

I must also say that it does not happen all the time.

I know a lot of people were complaining about the same thing on Afrihost (myself included). It sorted itself out for me at least after about 2 weeks after this issue started. I know some workaround was posted in the Afrihost thread were you change some of your settings on the browser, but can't remember what exactly it was.

I did note at the time that I didn't have the issue on a Web Africa connection.

A lot of people are still blaming it on Afrihost, so I think somewhere, some kind of traffic isn't being dealt with correctly or something.

I have been having the exact same problem I have a mweb premium 10mb line, for the last week or so pages in chrome keep taking a long time to load then it errors out and then loads fine especially with gmail and youtube. normally i can view full hd videos on youtube fine but it is taking forever to buffer them at the moment. Downloads during the day basically don't work only late at night. And games in steam use to download at 1mb/s + now only about 600kb/s. I have contacted them and they rebuilt the port with no change !!!

Hi darryn

I received your PM and have replied to it.

I will assist via PM until issue is resolved.

I've been having similar issues for the past few days... intermittent internet problems... sometimes things are fine, sometimes horrific, sometimes there is just no internet at all. Today has been completely terrible from an online gaming perspective: frequent disconnects, frequent periods of 5-40 seconds of no connection to the server (but not being disconnected) and the rest of the time it's been very hit and miss as to whether the game will respond to my keystrokes in under 5 seconds. Since around 4pm this afternoon, I have been completely unable to login to the game at all, despite multiple modem restarts etc.

Mweb has been good to me since I took them on as an ISP, and I've been exploring the possibility of upgrading my 4mb to a 10mb line. However, online gaming is important to me... and if the "performance" of the last few days continues, I will have to reconsider my ISP.
